Arizona Preps’ staff member Derek “DJ” James covered the day’s events from this weekend’s West Coast Elite Showcase @ Rancho Solano Prep. Here are (4) more prospects that caught James’ attention with their play this weekend . . . Tyrek Chambers 6-4 JR PG Desert Vista HS – 2019 Class This kid is a beast. This guy can flat out score any way he wants. He can hit you with a jumper, floater, layup, dunk or maybe even a running hook shot, if he can get it off. He plays with so much energy and passion that any coach will…

While watching this weekend’s Double Pump Summer Tip-Off event in California, I was also impressed with 6-foot-7 rising senior forward Mykale Williams, a 6-foot-7 post player from Redlands East Valley. This weekend he played with IEBP and I immediately felt his presence in the game. He had a college-ready body to compete now, and is a very strong kid with good balance who is also a strong finisher around the rim. The kid tried to dunk the ball every time he went up, which I absolutely loved. Him doing that showed me that he plays with aggression, which can be…
Fresno, California product, 6-foot-6 rising senior wing Dameane Dougles of Fresno Memorial High School caught my attention in this weekend’s Double Pump Summer Tip-Off. Dougles showed his presence every time he was on the court. Dameane has a lot potential to be a great college player over time. This weekend at the Double Pump tournament he showed outstanding versatility – being able to guard anyone from PG through PF. He has a college frame now, and is very long and athletic. He is also able to create his own shot and finish strong around the rim. He is also a…
I was able to watch this weekend’s Double Pump Summer Tip- Off from July 13-16th in California. I had the pleasure of watching soon to be 6-foot-2 sophomore PG, Ty Penberthy. I was excited to see his upside as he has developed throughout his journey. As a freshman, Ty already showed great qualities as a knock down shooter. He is poised, a good passer, a good ball handler, active feet and hands and a good basketball IQ. He has NBA shooting range, and can also get to the basket. I watched him compete this weekend against the Big Baller Brand…
This weekend I ran the Southwest All-American Camp at the Kroc Center in Phoenix. Anthony Ray (Arizona Preps) and I put together this event strictly for exposure purposes. We had almost 110 players attend the camp with 7 college coaches on hand plus some of the top West Coast scouts. We had Gerry Frietas (Hoopreview.net), Roy White (West Coast Hoops), Josh Gershon (National recruiting analyst for Scout.com) and Chris Karpman (Sun Devils Source/Scout.com) on hand. Those four communicate weekly to over 200 college coaches which should bring some more exposure to the players. Here is a rundown of the top…
