I was able to watch this weekend's Double Pump Summer Tip- Off from July 13-16th in California. I had the pleasure of watching soon to be 6-foot-2 sophomore PG, Ty Penberthy. I was excited to see his upside as he has developed throughout his journey.
As a freshman, Ty already showed great qualities as a knock down shooter. He is poised, a good passer, a good ball handler, active feet and hands and a good basketball IQ. He has NBA shooting range, and can also get to the basket. I watched him compete this weekend against the Big Baller Brand and Prodigy, against guards who are more athletic than he is, but he managed to hold his own ground.
What makes Ty, in my opinion, a good player and prospect is his feel for the game. He is consistently in the right positions on the floor, while showing great floor balance. His ability to play off the ball from his original position, as a point guard, and turn into a spot-up shooter is nice. He also has a really good basketball IQ and can get the ball where it is supposed to be - executing the play which is important as a guard. He also already has nice size as a freshman with a lot of time to continue to grow and develop even more.
I will continue to watch his progression as a player, as he continues to develop over the next three years.
