The exciting 2015 Hoophall West High School Invitational held at Chaparral High School was a tremendous sucess this past weekend, as the event featured an excellent venue of top-rated high school basketball programs – from in-state and abroad.  The event featured loads of experienced staff, excellent hospitality for everyone involved and also a very professional and big-time atmosphere for the event. The exciting Hoophall West event got underway on Friday at Chaparral High School with several games on the day.  Arizona Preps was on hand for the final game on the evening to watch Corona Del Sol High School take on national basketball power – St. Anthony’s High School (NJ).  St. Anthony’s was without the services of several of their post players, while Corona, of course, lost superstar 6-foot-11 sophomore post Marvin Bagley Jr. before the season to a transfer.  This match-up was decided by the tournament staff during the off-season when it was thought that Corona would have Bagley, so…

ACCAC D-I Player of the Week: Breannah Bretches – Arizona Western The Matadors went 1-1 last week, led by Breannah Bretches who totaled 34 points, 9 reboounds, 6 assists and 7 steals in the two contests. ACCAC D-I Player of the Week: Cameron Young – Arizona Western Cameron Young averaged 22 points and 10.5 rebounds in leading Arizona Western to two different ACCAC wins this past week. Skyline Prep High School is a newer school located in South Phoenix and is a member of the Canyon Athletic Association (CAA), a charter school.  Most basketball enthusiasts in the state have not seen the level of basketball played in this conference, as the teams that play in this conference have gone unnoticed and without attention for many years.  Simply because these high school teams do not participate in the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA), they have soared well below the radar as their accolades have been diminished and often ignored. The best individual performance this year was turned in by one of the state’s elite young prospects – Desert Ridge High School’s 6-foot-5, 205-pound sophomore wing Timmy Allen.  Last week, in a 75-65 win over Desert Vista High School, Allen poured in an impressive game-high 39 points and 18 rebounds.  Allen’s performance caught the attention of numerous different high-major division-I programs, and this weekend Allen would receive a scholarship offer from Arizona State University. In their first two meetings this year Dysart High School would defeat Willow Canyon in both games.  On Monday evening, the two teams would face each other for a third time this season, but this time Dysart (8-2) would be handed their worst loss of the season, as Willow Canyon, behind a very nice home crowd, would blow out Dysart, 61-35, behind a well-balanced offensive attack.
