ACCAC D-I Player of the Week: Akia Frett – Eastern Arizona  Eastern Arizona’s Akia Frett led the Gila Monsters to a 2-2 record last week, but three of those games were against Top 25-ranked  teams.  She poured in a total of 45 points, 10 rebounds, 19 assists and 11 steals in the 4 games. Boulder Creek (4-0) would prove Saturday evening in this year’s Paradise Valley Invitational that their strong play this week was no fluke, as they would defeat a very talented Apollo High School (3-1) team in the tournament’s final game, 75-72, in what may have been the best game of the young high school basketball season. Boulder Creek is a joy to watch play the game, as they play serious team basketball with an emphasis on sharing the basketball and uniting defensively to make plays and force turnovers.  Head coach Ryne Holstrom is one of the very best coaches I have…

The first week of the high school basketball season has become a tradition now for the Hoopsgiving Basketball Tournament, hosted by Sunnyslope High School and their Vikings basketball team.  Last season Sunnyslope would fall just short of winning the tournament title, but this year would prove very different as the Vikings, led by the play of 6-foot-3 senior guard Dane Maggi, would win the tournament. In the tournament final, host Sunnyslope HS (4-0) would face Brophy Prep.  Brophy Prep (3-1) had been playing very well in the event, defeating each of their previous three opponents en route to the tournament…

The Arizona 2015-2016 high school basketball season got underway this week around the state with numerous high school basketball tournaments taking place, and with many of the state’s teams in action.  The Arizona Preps’ staff again took in some of the action at this year’s Sunnyslope Hoopsgiving Basketball Tournament – with day 3 of the event taking place on Wednesday evening as the action heated up in the tournament’s semi-final games. The Arizona 2015-2016 high school basketball season got underway on Monday afternoon around the state with numerous high school basketball tournaments taking place, and with many of the state’s teams in action on the day.  The Arizona Preps’ staff would catch a couple games on the night at the Sunnyslope Hoopsgiving Basketball Tournament. We continue our new Fall Player Rankings with our next release – the 2017 Class Fall Player Rankings for girls in the state of Arizona.  This class is very talented – led by some really talented girls prospects in the state that are high-major division-I college prospects, with many other prospects that will reach some level of college basketball.  The 2017 class for girls in the state is still developing, but many prospects in the state have already emerged as nice college prospects. We continue our new Fall Player Rankings with our next release – the 2017 class fall player rankings for post players – completing our rankings for the 2017 class.  Post players for the 2017 class looks to be strong as well, although not as deep as the point guards or small forward positions in the class.  There are however numerous division-I prospects in this position as well – with many prospects that have potential to help college programs in the future. We continue our new Fall Player Rankings with our next release – the 2017 class fall player rankings for shooting guards.  This position among the 2017 class is missing any true star power, and does not have many division-I prospects at the position.  Rather, this position is filled with many division-II and division-III prospects for the class.
