Tuesday night was an epic night for the Desert Vista High School basketball team and first-year head coach Gino Crump. Crump and his team would make a major statement on the evening, the biggest statement of the year, with an exciting 85-56 blowout victory over host Chandler High School. Desert Vista (3-0) came into the match-up sporting the best lineup in the state’s high school ranks, for AIA membership programs, while Chandler is super athletic and features possibly the state’s top overall prospect in 6-foot-7 junior wing Tevian Jones. The night quickly, and I mean quickly, a night and coming-out-party…

Both programs seem to be heading in different directions currently, as Scottsdale Junior College (5-4, 2-1) won their second game in a row on Saturday evening, while South Mountain (6-3, 0-3) would lose their third game in a row. After leading at the half, Scottsdale would outscore South Mountain 57 to 41 in the game’s second half to post almost 100 points in their win – 99-72. Scottsdale JC head coach Mark Bunker has worked very hard to build a program at Scottsdale. With limited resources, the Chaparral High School graduate has done an excellent job of putting a team…

Friday evening gave me a good opportunity to visit my alma mater and catch an old rivalry match-up between host Moon Valley High School and visiting Greenway (2-4). After a very competitive first half, Moon Valley (4-2) would use a big second half to blow the game wide open – leading to a nice 56-34 home victory for the Rockets. Both teams would compete hard in the game’s first half, in a very low scoring affair. Greenway would walk into the locker rooms with a 21-20 lead. The third period would tell the story though, as an athletic Moon Valley…
In their first home game of the ACCAC junior college season, Mesa Junior College (6-0, 2-0) would face a confident Glendale Community College (5-4, 1-1) team, that came into Wednesday evening’s match-up looking for the upset victory. But Mesa JC would prove to be stronger – winning their first ACCAC home game of the season with a 85-70 win. While the game would be slow to get going, the two teams would heat up late in the first half to create some fireworks. With Mesa beginning to pull away from Glendale late in the first half, Glendale would ignite and…
Chaparral High School’s gifted guard prospect, 6-foot-2 senior point guard Colton Kresl is among the most talented performers in the state – regardless of class, and is now one of the top unsigned prospects in the 2017 class. Kresl has been off to a terrific start to the high school basketball season – turning in career performances to start the high school basketball season. On Tuesday evening, Kresl poured in his best performance of his young career in a nice win over Centennial High School. In the win, Kresl exploded for 33 points and 5 assists – missing only (3)…
Chaparral High School (4-0) won this year’s Paradise Valley Invitational Saturday evening with a big 81-64 championship victory over an athletic Cesar Chavez High School team that got down fast and early, and never recovered. Behind the strong play of unsigned 6-foot-2 senior point guard Colten Kresl, Chaparral led the entire way in this one and never looked back. Chaparral would come out firing in this one in the first period, as Colten Kresl would turn in a superb first quarter for his team – either scoring or assisting on almost every basket in the first quarter. Kresl would knock…
Agua Fria High School (3-0) advanced to the championship game Friday evening with a nice 65-52 victory over visiting Cathedral Prep HS (TX), behind a terrific performance from 6-foot-6 senior wing Bryce Fowler (Sacramento State signee). Fowler came up big for his team on the evening. Agua Fria would come out fast in this one behind a nice effort from 6-foot-1 junior guard Daniel Foster. Bryce Fowler would then get it going after a nice transition layup where he would switch hands in mid-air – giving Agua Fria a 15-12 lead in the first period with 1:54 left to. After…
