One of the top freshman prospects in the conference has emerged as of late. Central Arizona Junior College 6-foot-5 freshman guard/forward Isaiah Bellamy came to Central Arizona JC to improve his college recruitment. This season Bellamy has played strong basketball and now has put himself into a very good position.
Bellamy has emerged this season as one of the top overall freshman prospects in the ACCAC conference. After graduating from Westview High School in 2014, possibly the state's best class ever, Bellamy attended Westwind Prep for one year, before landing at Central Arizona JC this season. Bellamy is an older frosh than normal, which makes him an immediate impact performer. Also an NCAA academic qualifier out of high school, Bellamy will be in a position to leave Central Arizona after one year - if the opportunity presents itself.
Bellamy has really improved as a player also. This season, I have been very impressed with this young man's ability to play the game, as he has impressed me with his developed understanding of how to get his while also getting others involved in the game. He is a very skilled prospect with a nice overall feel for the game, and he plays both ends of the floor hard. Nice attributes for a player.
Bellamy was once seen as the top overall prospect in Arizona's 2014 class when he was in grade school, but knee injuries hurt his development as a player. Now older and after overcoming a lot of adversity for himself, Bellamy is better than ever and has the potential to play division-I basketball at the mid-major level.
This season, Bellamy is averaging good numbers. He is currently putting up 14.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per/game. He is also coming off a 29-point performance last week in a 84-82 win over Tohono O'Odham JC.
Currently, Bellamy does not any division-I offers on the table, but he has numerous schools beginnign to show interest, led by North Carolina A&T. They will be in to see him in the next week.
Bellamy advised me that he is not concerned as to which level he goes, but rather where he will have a chance to play right away and have a good college career.
I will continue to follow this young man's college recruitment closely and bring you any updates as they develop. This yougn man has really put in the work over the years, and now he deserve anything that comes his way.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Bellamy is a strong, well-built athlete with a very good knack for the basketball and excellent toughness. He has very good athleticism. Once regarded as the top prospect in his class as a youngster, Bellamy has had to adjust his game over the years, but has developed into a very good small forward prospect with a good overall skill level. A good scorer with an ability to score inside and outside. At his best on the wing and from mid-range where he is a good shooter and finisher around the basket. A good three-point shooter with range on his shot - an area of his game that he has really developed. A good facilitator and passer that sees the floor. A good ball handler and passer. Strong rebounder and finisher. A very good on-the-ball defender and potentially a lock-down defender. Good shotblocker. A solid all-around college prospect.
