The very coveted 6A State Championship is the top state class of it’s kind in the state of Arizona, and this season the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) introduced the 6A Division for Arizona high school basketball.  Whether it was the 6A trophy or last year’s Division-I trophy, the Basha Bears (31-1) had an amazing season – finishing with an a near perfect record and defeating former state juggernaut Corona Del Sol 75-65 for the 6A State Championship. It was a big contest for both Mesa and Pima Junior College on Saturday evening, as both teams are in the playoff hunt in the ACCAC.  These two teams would not disappoint as they would fight hard until the end, before Mesa JC would pull out the exciting home victory in overtime, 94-93, despite 27 points and 11 rebounds from Pima 6-foot-8 sophomore forward Deion James. The future is superbly bright for Pinnacle High School’s star 6-foot-2 freshman combo-guard prospect Nico Mannion.  After a ridiculous freshman season for this young man, many high-major division-I programs are already looking to stake claim on the young phenom. This week, after Mannion recently received a huge offer from the University of Arizona, he would receive another huge offer from top-ranked UCLA.  Mannion also already has offers from Arizona State and Cal State Northridge, with many more scholarship offers on the horizon. Chaparral High School’s gifted guard prospect, 6-foot-2 unsigned senior point guard Colton Kresl, is among the most talented performers in the state, but has flown well below the recruiting radar.  While Kresl has received loads of division-I interest from college coaches, he has not generated many college scholarship offers. This week, UNLV’s coachings staff expressed their desire to make Kresl a Running Rebel. How sweet it is for Skyline Prep head coach Jace Romero, after winning this year’s CAA State Championship on Friday evening at Talking Stick Resort Arena.  The championship victory came in an epic 69-65 overtime win over favored Tri-City Christian High School.  Tri-City had blown out Skyline Prep at home earlier in the season (72-47). “I didn’t think we could do it,” said Romero after the game.  “We worked on sharing the basketball and shooting all week.  We really came out hot in the first half.” Skyline Prep came out firing on all cylinders in this game.  With UCLA assistant…

Anthem Prep High School’s 6-foot-8, 185-pound junior post Trey Wood made a significant jump in our recent 2018 Class Player Rankings for our Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report, which we provide directly to college coaches.  Wood put up serious numbers this high school season after missing much of the 2016 club season with an injury.
