Arizona's 2019 Class of prospects is loaded with talent for the future. One of the top prospects in the class is Verrado High School's talented 6-foot-7, 215-pound sophomore forward Shaun Wahlstrom. Wahlstrom is fresh off a strong performance in this year's Arizona Preps Spring Classic, and is now regarded by our staff as one of the elite prospects in the class.
Very rarely in Arizona do we see a prospect as young as Wahlstrom with such a great body. This young man is a physical specimen and once his skillset catches up to his size, watch out. This young man is already very talented - suggesting that he has a very bright future ahead of himself.
Wahlstrom is coming off a good sophomore season at Verrado, where helped lead his program to a 17-10 overall record on the season in the state's 5A Division. He was an integral part of the team's success thsi season, and will look to improve a great deal next high school season after a strong year on the club circuit with his club program.
Wahlstrom plays for a very talented 16U group under Tom Kyper's club program known as the Tom Kuyper Classics. The team is loaded with talent and size - allowing Wahlstrom to play inside and out, while receiving excellent intstruction from a great coaching staff, led by Tarik James and Josh Cole. This club team will definitely be one to watch this club season. Myself and my staff will definitely be following this team throughout the spring and summer.
Wahlstrom is definitely a player to watch as he is big and skilled and can score either with his back to the basket, or from the perimeter where he likes to set up defenders with a nice mid-range jump shot. He is also a good low-post scorer with good overall footwork for his age, and is able to take the basketball strong to the basket and also finish strong at the rim. He is a good offensive rebounder and is able to start the fastbreak wth good outlet passes, and then able to run the floor hard.
This young man will need to get quicker feet as he continues to grow and become more explosive at the rim to reach his full potential as a player. Over time with hard work, he should progress nicely and become one of the better prospects in Arizona's 2019 class.
