The 8th Annual Arizona Spring Showcase will be held Sunday, February 24th @ The PHHacility. Organized by Area Codes Basketball and Tournament Director Chad Groth, this event will be for all high school boys, grades 9 – 12. While most did not think it could be done, Globe High School’s 5-foot-11, 150-pound senior guard Robert Burries is now the state of Arizona’s all-time leading scorer, after a record-setting Friday night win by his team over St. Augustine HS, 82-48. In the big win, Burries scored a game-high 41 points and dished 7 assists. Burries now holds on to the state’s career scoring record with 3,171 career points and counting. Burries broke former Estrella Foothills HS star guard Corey Hawkins’ scoring record of 3,154 points. Hawkins had previously broke Mike Bibby’s scoring record of 3,002 points set in 1996. Wednesday evening would have set the stage for a tremendous battle between the top two Division-II programs in the ACCAC Conference, minus Scottsdale JC this season. Last season, it was a different story for Skyline Prep, the defending Division-3 CAA state champs, as they would defeat Tri-City Christian Academy in the state semi-finals before winning it all. The season before that, Skyline would win the state title by defeating Tri-City in the state finals.
