This week, the ACCAC announced their All-ACCAC Teams in the conference and their awards for the 2018-2019 junior college season. Cochise Junior College (26-5, 20-2) had a terrific season this year – winning the conference regular season title and leading the way for much of the season. It is only right that members of the Cochise program would, once again, lead the way in this year’s awards. 5-foot-11, 150-pound sophomore guard Abram Carrasco has had an excellent career at Pima Junior College, after graduating from Cholla High School in Tucson. After a terrific sophomore season for the gifted guard prospect, Carrasco broke the Pima All-Time Career Scoring Record on Wednesday evening in his team big Region-I, Division-II semi-final win over Glendale Junior College, 101-77 at home. In the game, Carrasco finished with 12 points, but, in the process, he broke former Pima standout Greg Cook’s scoring record, set in 1980 of 1,240 points. Arizona Western (24-8, 17-6) got it done, winning this year’s Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) Division-I Championship on Monday evening, after a big 85-81 overtime victory at home over a surging Eastern Arizona Junior College program. Cochise Junior College had led the way in the ACCAC Conference standings for much of the entire junior college season, but were upset in the semi-finals by Eastern Arizona JC. In very surprising fashion on Saturday, it was announced that Hillcrest Prep 6-foot-1, 160-pound senior guard Caleb Christopher has given a verbal commitment to the Arizona State Sun Devils – a major announcement for both the local PAC-12 program and also the Hillcrest Prep basketball program. Christopher is the older brother of talented 5-Star wing prospect, Joshua Christopher who played last spring and summer for the heavily sponsored Cal Supreme (CA) club program. It has been a long road for Hillcrest Prep 6-foot-9 prep post Chase Courtney. After first starting his high school career at Skyline High School in Mesa, Courtney then transferred to Bella Vista for his senior season last year, and now is finishing his high school career at Hillcrest Prep, where he is currently spending a post graduate year. The 7th Annual Arizona Spring Showcase took place this weekend at The PHHacility, and included more than 60 different prospects in action for the event.
