5-foot-11, 150-pound sophomore guard Abram Carrasco has had an excellent career at Pima Junior College, after graduating from Cholla High School in Tucson.  After a terrific sophomore season for the gifted guard prospect, Carrasco broke the Pima All-Time Career Scoring Record on Wednesday evening in his team big Region-I, Division-II semi-final win over Glendale Junior College, 101-77 at home.  In the game, Carrasco finished with 12 points, but, in the process, he broke former Pima standout Greg Cook's scoring record, set in 1980 of 1,240 points.

Carrasco has had a strong sophomore campaign for himself, and has led Pima to a strong season - averaging impressive numbers with 21 points and 4.1 assists per/game this season, while shooting 51.6% from the field and 43% from three-point distance.  Carrasco has been the catalyst for the Pima ball club this season, and recently in a nice 107-102 win over a tough Phoenix College program, Carrasco went off for a game-high and career-high 41 points in the victory.

Carrasco is a very skilled lead guard with a nice shooting stroke with a quick release on his shot, and an ability to create shots for himself off the dribble.  He also can catch and shoot and has excellent range on his shot.  he has a very good handle of the basketball and likes to find the open man on the floor, but is at his best when scoring the basketball, so, even though he is a smaller guard, he is capable of playing both guard positions on the floor.  He pushes the basketball up the floor and is at his best in a fast-breaking style of offense.  He is also a good on-the-ball defender, and has good lateral quickness and quick hands.  He is a definite sleeper still among junior college guard prospects.

Carrasco and his teammates, led by terrific Head Coach Brian Peabody and his talented staff, have compiled a 25-6 overall record this season, and now will advance to their third straight NJCAA Region-I, Division-II Championship game on Friday evening, after defeating Glendale Community College (16-14) in the semi-finals on Wednesday.  In the victory, former Hamilton HS graduate, 6-foot-5 freshman guard Rashad Smith led all scorers with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Carrasco and the #1 seed Pima Aztecs will now host #2 seed Scottsdale Community College on Friday evening in the Region-I, Division-II Championship Game.
