It was a match-up that had many basketball enthusiasts had been excited about for some time, as it would be a rematch game between AZ Compass Prep and Bella Vista Prep. Last season, the two programs had faced off in epic fashion on the AZ Compass campus. After an amazing first half-performance by Bella Vista’s Terry Armstrong (University of Arizona signee), AZ Compass Prep would come from behind in the game’s second half to win it, led by the play of now University of Utah freshman guard Both Gach. The performances by Gach and Armstrong were terrific last season and…

Cochise continues to hold on the conference lead with a nice 18-2 conference record. Cochise currently stands alone in first place by (4) games for division-I programs. Arizona Western JC is in second place, with a 14-6 conference record among…

The recruiting process is now finally over for Hillcrest Prep’s talented 6-foot-9 senior forward Dischon Thomas. After a long recruiting process, where Thomas first gave a verbal commitment to the University of Nevada, then decided to re-open his college recruitment, he has now made his college decision once again. After thinking over his options for the spring, Thomas has found his right fit before the start to the late signing period. This weekend, Thomas decided to end his college recruitment and give a verbal pledge to Colorado State University and Head Coach Niko Medved and his coaching staff – a very nice…
Apollo High School (25-3) has their sights set on winning another state championship this high school season, after a tremendous run in the early 2000’s by the program. For this Apollo program, there was no better way to continue their state championship goal than to dethrone the two-time defending state champion Sunnyslope Vikings (18-9). The quest to win a state title should go through the defending state champion, and that is exactly what happened on Friday evening for Apollo, as they would face the 5A defending champions at home. The match-up would become an absolute statement game for the top overall…
Brophy Prep (14-12) has had a very interesting season and has been hard to figure out for Head Coach Matt Hooten and his coaching staff. After a very slow start to the high school season where they lost 5 of their first 6 games, Brophy would upset then #1 Mountain Pointe (63-61). They would then win 7 of their next 8 contests on the season. But then Brophy would struggle late in the season, as the team prepared for this year’s 6A State Playoffs – losing (3) games in a row, before getting a big win over Hamilton and entering…

After winning their second-consecutive state championship last season, the program graduated key members to last season’s team and former successful and hard-working Head Coach Jace Romero left the program to pursue other endeavors. The program returned this season with a completely new lineup and a new leader, as former New York basketball legend and former Villanova…
