The wait is finally over for one of the top post prospects in the country.  On Thursday evening on the campus of his high school program, Mesa Mountain View’s talented and top-rated 6-foot-10, 235-pound senior post Payton Dastrup gave one of the biggest commitments in the state of Arizona’s history high school basketball history – giving a verbal commitment to Ohio State University and head coach Thad Matta. Eastern Arizona Junior College’s top-rated returning 6-foot-1, 180-pound sophomore guard Taylor Stafford is coming off an excellent freshman season for his college program – garnering numerous post-season honors as a result of his freshman performance.  On Tuesday evening, Stafford led his program to a big road win over host Glendale Junior College, 81-77 – pouring in a game-high 27 points in the victory. Another Arizona prospect that really benefited from this year’s performance in the Arizona Preps Fall Showcase was Independence High School’s 6-foot-4 junior guard Kaveon Moore.  Moore went from almost obscurity as a college prospect before the event, to now becoming one of the elite prospects in the state’s 2015 class.  Moore’s performance was enough to raise many eyebrows of scouts and media in attendance – raising Moore’s recruiting stock significantly by the end of the event. The Arizona Preps Fall Showcase has been consistently known over the years for producing the state’s top recruiting targets, as the event helps to create a coming-out-party atmosphere for the state’s top performers.  No prospect in the event helped themselves more in the recent Showcase event than Gilbert High School’s rapidly developing 6-foot-7 senior forward Spencer Nicolds.  Nicolds absolutely exploded in this year’s event – proving that he is worthy of serious division-I college recruitment in the spring. In last weekend’s 15th Annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase, there were numerous top-rated girls prospects in the event and many top performances as a result.  One of the elite performers in this year’s event was Tempe Prep Academy’s 6-foot-1 senior guard/forward Camille Zimmerman (Columbia University commit).  While turning in a runner-up Tournament Most Valuable Player performance in the event, Zimmerman proved her #3 overall ranking among Arizona’s top 2014 prospects, while also making a strong case to be ranked even higher. Westwind Prep Academy is back at it again, as the school has again brought in numerous top-rated prospects to the post-graduate and high school programs for the 2013-2014 season.  With many talented college prospects in attendance at the school again, despite past troubles with the NCAA Clearinghouse, the new Westwind coaching staff is getting it done at a high level – raising the college recruitment and exposure of their prospective student-athletes. The recruiting process for Sunnyslope High School’s talented 6-foot-10 senior post Michael Humphrey has been a very long one – beginning at this year’s Reebok Breakout Camp in Philadelphia, PA in July during the NCAA evaluation period.  Humphrey went into the camp with very little to no college offers and left the camp as one of the hottest prospects in the West.
