One of the top available prospects in the state of Arizona’s 2017 class is Mountain Ridge High School’s 6-foot-7 senior forward Jared Rodriguez.  A very athletic wing prospect with good length and a very versatile skillset, Rodriguez has not seen his college recruitment take off as of yet.  I caught up with Rodriguez recently, and he advised me that he will wait until the spring to make a college decision. The Arizona Preps staff had a very busy weekend covering several events held in Phoenix.  On Sunday we observed many of the games held at this year’s Southwest Exposure Showcase, organized by long-time successful tournament organizer Ron Coleman.  Coleman always puts on large quality events for his participants, and this event featured many top-rated teams from inside the state, and also abroad. The Super 80 Showcase took place this weekend on the campus of Arizona Christian University, with several other events taking place over the weekend as well.  Organized by tournament organizer Chad Groth, the event included numerous prospects that were looking to make a name for themselves with the college coaches, scouts and media in attendance.  There were numerous college coaches in attendance for the event, as they were also in town for this year’s ACCAC Juco Jamboree. Phoenix Suns’announcer and commentator Eddie Johnson will make his return to this year’s Arizona Preps Fall Showcase as the featured guest speaker for this year’s event.  Johnson has spoken to the participants from several other AZP Fall Showcase events in the past.  Johnson will speak on Saturday, October 29th to the camp participants. In very surprising fashion this week, Basha High School’s talented and promising 6-foot-5, 195-pound junior forward Gabe McGlothan decided to end his college recruitment and select a college basketball program that suits him nicely.  After announcing earlier in the week that he would announce his decision this week, McGlothan gave a verbal commitment to a division-I program. McGlothan had numerous scholarship offers on the table from such schools as Grand Canyon, Northern Colorado, Easter Washington, Southern Utah and Montana State, but this week he chose to accept an offer from Army West Point, the United States Military Acadmedy. The top remainning recruiting target in Arizona’s 2017 senior class was Tri-City Christian’s 6-foot-8 senior post Nigel Shadd.  As a result, Shadd was just beginning to generate much more recruiting interest for himself, but now Shadd is off the recruiting board likes a few of his other classmates – giving a big verbal commitment to Kansas State University just after his recruiting visit to the program. Arizona Preps FallShowcase Entry Fee The amazing 18th Annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase, Arizona’s original showcase basketball event, will be held October 29th – 30th, 2016 at American Indian Indian College (SAGU University) in Phoenix (located at 15th Avenue & Hatcher.  The event will be held on Saturday, October 29th and Sunday October 30th for high school and junior high boys (7th & 8th grade).  There will be clinics held for participants with SPECIAL guest speakers on Saturday while all games will be played on Sunday. The college recruitment of 6-foot-5 sophomore wing Josh Green has really picked up this fall, as college coaches are out making the rounds – looking at young talent around the country.  After receiving several division-I offers this summer, on Thursday evening Green received his biggest division-I offer to date – a big PAC-12 offer.
