Arizona Western (24-8, 17-6) got it done, winning this year’s Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) Division-I Championship on Monday evening, after a big 85-81 overtime victory at home over a surging Eastern Arizona Junior College program. Cochise Junior College had led the way in the ACCAC Conference standings for much of the entire junior college season, but were upset in the semi-finals by Eastern Arizona JC. The Division-I, Region-I Tournament semi-finals for the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) took place on Saturday evening, as #1 seed Cochise hosted #4 seed Eastern Arizona Junior College, and #2 seed Arizona Western JC hosted #3 seed Mesa Junior College. In very surprising fashion on Saturday, it was announced that Hillcrest Prep 6-foot-1, 160-pound senior guard Caleb Christopher has given a verbal commitment to the Arizona State Sun Devils – a major announcement for both the local PAC-12 program and also the Hillcrest Prep basketball program. Christopher is the older brother of talented 5-Star wing prospect, Joshua Christopher who played last spring and summer for the heavily sponsored Cal Supreme (CA) club program. It has been a long road for Hillcrest Prep 6-foot-9 prep post Chase Courtney. After first starting his high school career at Skyline High School in Mesa, Courtney then transferred to Bella Vista for his senior season last year, and now is finishing his high school career at Hillcrest Prep, where he is currently spending a post graduate year. The 7th Annual Arizona Spring Showcase took place this weekend at The PHHacility, and included more than 60 different prospects in action for the event. It was a match-up that had many basketball enthusiasts had been excited about for some time, as it would be a rematch game between AZ Compass Prep and Bella Vista Prep. Last season, the two programs had faced off in epic fashion on the AZ Compass campus.
