Another Arizona prospect that has seen his college recruitment really take off during the spring evaluation period is AZ Compass Prep 6-foot-4 sharp-shooting junior guard Xavier DuSell. DuSell has turned in several top performances this spring, and it has paid off for DuSell, as he has seen his college recruitment really begin to take shape.
On Friday, DuSell received hsi biggest offer to date, as the University of New Mexico extended an offer to DuSell, a member of the Mountain West Conference. DuSell also currently possesses offers from UTEP, Idaho State, Montana and Northern Arizona. He has not currently indicated a leader in his college recruitment, and there does not seem to be a timetable yet as to when he will make a college decision.
While traveling with his club program this spring on the top Adidas Gauntlet Gold Circuit, Team Harden, DuSell has gained notoriety and attention for his ability to make shots from anywhere on the floor, with excellent range and a quick release. He has good size and is also capable of playing several positions on the floor.
Dusell decided to transfer to the AZ Compass Prep program in the fall of 2018 - leaving Chaparral High School after one season at the school. Dusell also spent his freshman season at Mesquite HS, before making the move to Chaparral. DuSell is coming off a strong junior season for AZ Compass, where he was a consistent top performer for the program.
Dusell has become a sleeper prospect in Arizona's 2020 Class, after being regarded and heralded as a top-rated prospect in the class for many years. Unlike some others in the class, DuSell is just beginning to see his college recruitment take off, like that of other members of the 2020 Class. He should only continue to see much higher recruitment throughout the remainder of the spring and summer evaluation period.
I will follow Dusell's recruitment closely the remainder of the spring and summer, and will bring you any updates as they continue to develop for him.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Dusell is a special talent - possessing excellent size and versatility as a player. Dusell is capable of playing several perimeter positions on the floor, while having a strong handle of the basketball and a nice perimeter shooting stroke with unlimited range and a quick release. He is difficult to defend as a result of his shooting prowess, which he is able to get off almost at will. He is also able to make plays for himself or others off the dribble, and has a good overall feel for the game. I would like to see him be able to post up more, which will make it even more difficult for smaller defenders to guard him. Currently, he likes to score from the perimeter, where he is much more comfortable at this stage in his young career. He is a good passer with a nice overall feel for the game, and has very good versatility as a player. A good ball handler. He is a good rebounder and finisher in the lane. A solid defender. Has a very bright future ahead of him, as he can be a specialist also. One of the best shooters of the basketball in the West. A good sleeper prospect heading into the summer.
