Almost two years ago, Glendale Junior College, led by our 2019-2020 ACCAC Co-Coach of the Year Ken Carrillo, won the Division-II Region Championship in the conference with a big championship victory over rival Pima Junior College on their home floor (105-96). Glendale got hot late in the season – winning their last (6) games on the season and picking up a nice head of steam heading into the NJCAA Division-II National Tournament. Arizona Preps recently organized and held the Arizona Preps Summer Clash Tournament for top girl’s high school varsity teams in the state (June). This year’s impressive Tournament Champion was Salpointe Catholic High School. Led by the superb play of rising junior guard Bria Medina and rising senior guard Kylee Callahan, Salpointe won this year’s exciting event, and will lead Salpointe to an excellent season this year (2021-2022). The Centennial High School basketball program is definitely on the rise and in position to win a 5A State Championship next high school season, as the program will be returning the majority of last year’s team that had a terrific season in 2021. During the shortened season, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Centennial had their best season – finishing with an impressive 18-2 overall record on the season.
