One of the elite boy's basketball prospects in Arizona's 2016 class is Gilbert Christian High School's 6-foot-3, 175-pound junior guard Cameron Satterwhite. One of the most athletic prospects in the state, Satterwhite is now coming into his own this high school season. As a result, Satterwhite has developed quickly into one of the most sought after recruiting targets in the state.
Gilbert Christian is one of Arizona's premier basketball programs, and has developed into a basketball power over the past several years. Satterwhite is one of the program's original prospects and this young man has developed under the influence of the school's coaching staffs, and also his club program, the Arizona Power. Satterwhite has matured nicely and now is generating nice college interest, as a result.
Satterwhite currently holds offers from NAU, Rice, Portland, Portland State and Weber State, and this season he has received many college visitors to his school to evaluate him as a college prospect. Such schools as Arizona, Gonzaga, Oregon and many other programs have shown interest in Satterwhite this season.
Satterwhite is very long and athletic and has a very good feel for the game. The game comes very natural to him as a player, and he is also a natural athlete that thrives in the open floor and flys through the air with grace. He is able to make plays that most players cannot, as a result of his athleticism and ability to play above the rim. He is an excellent finisher above the rim and is capable of finish plays over bigger defenders. An excellent slasher and finisher, Satterwhite plays much bigger than his size suggests - utilizing his length and wingspan to make plays, with or without the basketball.
This young man has the potential to become an excellent defender, as he has excellent lateral quickness and on-the-court anticipation - allowing him to play passing lanes and get in the open floor for steals and transition baskets. He is capable of becoming a lock-down defender, but still needs to focus on locking up opposing ballhandlers off the dribble to reach his maximum potential as a player.
This season, Satterwhite has come into his own though - averaging 18.5 points, 2.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per/game. Gilbert Christian is currently 11-6 on the season and, after some early season struggles, the team has won their last four games on the season, and looks to be playing better team basketball as of late.
Gilbert Christian will face Seton Catholic High School on the road on Thursday evening (1/15). Look for Satterwhite to continue his terrific play this season, while looking to lead his Gilbert Christian program to another strong playoff finish in the state's Division-II Class.
