After going over the numerous recruiting options for himself, rather than wait for the spring evaluation period, Hillcrest Prep’s 6-foot-6, 230-pound versatile prospect Shamiel Stevenson has given a verbal commitment to a program in the ACC Conference. Arizona Compass Prep (AZCP) is a charter school located in Chandler, Arizona.  The basketball program is on the rise at the school, but after only winning 1 game in 5 years at the school, school officials realized they needed to make a change.  They brought in former NBA player Ray Weathers this season, and the program has made amazing strides – winning this year’s conference title and posting a 9-0 record thus far this high school season. The No. 1 player in America’s 2017 Class resides right here in the state of Arizona, and has for 3 years.  At Hillcrest Prep Academy, directed by Matt Allen and Nick Weaver, located on 34th street & McDowell, this program is having a big year.  Recently when that #1 player, 7-foot-1 senior post DeAndre Ayton was selected to anchor the 2017 McDonalds All-American team, the program received an honor that most prep schools around the country do not possess. It was a game of two halves for sure, but actually a game of quarters, as South Mountain Junior College overcame a huge second half thirty-three point lead by Arizona Western (AWC).  With the game in complete control by the Matadors, Arizona Western watched a tremendous 33-point lead vanish during the second half at South Mountain Community College on Saturday evening. The game looked in complete control by Arizona Western after 6-foot freshman guard Daryl Adams hit back-to-back three-pointers to put Arizona Western (17-4, 10-3) ahead big, 69-36.  Adams finished with 14 points. Brophy Prep (16-6) is gearing up to make a strong push for the 6A state playoffs at this point in the season.  After recently falling to undefeated Basha, Brophy head coach Matt Hooten has his team playing their best basketball of the season.  The Broncos showed just how good they can be on Friday evening – absolutely blowing out a talented Chandler team, 68-38.
