Shadow Mountain High School has been the class for basketball in the state of Arizona for several years, literaly dominating the state’s basketball competition.  After winning another state championship last season and graduating their top prospects to college programs across the country, the program has returned again this season under head coach Mike Bibby to pick up right where they left off. Central Arizona College trailed by four at the half (43-39), but Coach Tramaine Aaron stuck to the gameplan and kept the starting-five fresh by using his bench, as the Vaqueros held off South Mountain by a point Saturday evening – winning the contest 80-79, behind a balanced attack. South Mountain rallied from an early 16-point deficit, but Central was able to hold on late, behind the play of talented 6-foot-5 freshman forward Isaiah Bellamy.  Bellamy collected an offensive rebound and a put-back with 3:30 left in the game to put Central Arizona ahead, 74-71. Peoria High School (8-10) has been up and down all season long, and their performance on Tuesday evening proved to be a game much like the season.  While having a very young team this season, with only four seniors on their roster, and one of their top prospects ineligible by the AIA, this team has struggled  to consistently win ball games.  On Tuesday evening, they would get their chance to overcome a previous loss this season. Arcadia High School’s talented 6-foot-2 unsigned senior guard Max Moses has been among the best unsigned senior guards in the state this season.  Already putting up numerous top performances for Arcadia High School this season, Moses has developed into one of the elite sleeper guard prospects in the state this high school season, while soaring under the recruiting radar. Arcadia High School (15-3) has played some great basketball this season under head coach Stephen Danford.  On Friday evening, the team would face a bigtest at home aginst rival Chaparral High School.  Behind the strong play of senior guard Max Moses and 6-foot-3 junior guard Jaylin Fleming, Arcadia would get the big home win, 51-50. The 2016-2017 junior college basketball season in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) is now underway, and in full swing.  There is a 3-way tie for division-I schools in the confgerence at 7-2, between Cochise, Arizona Western and Mesa Junior College.  Phoenix College is currently in sole first place for division-II schools, with a 7-2 record in the division. Central Arizona College (10-7, 3-6) defeated Chandler-Gilbert on the road on Wednesday evening and improved their record on the season.  Central Arizona overcame a game-effort from Chandler-Gilbert, who is much improved this season behind the terrific leadership of head coach Steve Silsby. Central Arizona worked the ball inside, made some timely outside shots, and kept the turnovers to a minimum in the win. 6-foot-6 sophomore wing Karriem Simmons (pictured) finished with a game-high 23 points in the victory, as Central Arizona led at the half by one-point, 40-29.   Central would outscore Chandler-Gilbert 46-41 in the second half for the win.…

The charter school league, known as the CAA, is developing quickly in the state.  With more than 75 different boys basketball programs in the state competing each season now, there are many student-athletes that are going the charter school route these days for athletics.
