The AZ Compass Prep program is on the rise in the state of Arizona. In their first season with a national program, which has played some top-rated national competition this season, the program is gaining strong attention under the quality leadership of Head Coach Ray Weathers and his staff, which includes his wife Angela Weathers – regarded as one of the best developers of talent in the West. This weekend, the program traveled to Henderson, Nevada, where they faced off with one of the nation’s premier high school basketball programs – Findlay Prep (NV). The game was featured by Gatorade…

One of the top overall prospects in Arizona’s very gifted 2020 Class is AZ Compass Prep’s 6-foot-1 sophomore guard Jalin Anderson. Anderson has had an excellent sophomore season while playing for head coach Ray Weathers and his experienced staff, and has blossomed into one of the elite prospects in the class. This high school season, after transferring from Chandler High School before the season began, Anderson took over the starting position for one of the top up-and-coming prep school programs in the West. With Anderson at the helm this season, the first-year national team has played at a high level throughout the…
The 7th Annual Arizona Spring Showcase took place on the campus of Arizona Christian University on Sunday, and the event kicked off the spring evaluation period and also the event season in the state. With just a few high school programs still looking to compete for state titles this week, Area Codes Basketball and Tournament Director Chad Groth decided to put on the first event of the spring – getting a jump on the event schedule. The event was filled with some nice unheralded talent for local college coaches to take a hard look at – many underclassmen and also…
In surprising fashion this weekend, one of the top available 2018 prospects in the state jumped off the recruiting board, after Hillcrest Prep’s 6-foot-3 unsigned prep guard Demarius Jacobs decided to give a verbal commitment to a school in the Atlantic-10 Conference. The commitment came while Jacobs was on an official recruiting visit to Saint Louis University. He would like the visit enough to give his pledge to the program. Jacobs had recently stated that he was nearing a decision, and he absolutely was. One of the top unsigned guard prospects in the West, Jacobs had recently received a big scholarship offer from…
The junior college season is winding down in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC), as Phoenix College (21-6, 17-2) continues to hold on to a narrow lead for first place in the conference. Pima JC (24-3, 16-3) is in excellent position late in the season, currently in second place and playing their best basketball of the season. Both teams are setting up for another face-off for the Division-II title. Arizona Western and Cochise JC are currently in 3rd and 4th place in the conference – fighting for the Division-I conference title. Here are the Players of the Week in the ACCAC, as…

The defending 5A State Champions, Sunnyslope High School (23-5) have been special all season long – displaying a well-disciplined style of play that the state has not seen since the 1980’s. The Vikings began their quest for a third-straight State Championship game berth, and their second-consecutive state title on Tuesday evening at home against a talented Chaparral team. Chaparral (14-15) has struggled all season to live up to their potential. A talented group of younger prospects, many of whom will return next season, the Firebirds will have a bright future ahead of them, but this season the team fell very…
Hillcrest Prep has been consistently known for having top-rated national talent over the years, after featuring such top-rated future NBA prospects previously as Marvin Bagley (Duke) and DeAndre Ayton (University of Arizona). The program is currently led by one of the nation’s premier talents, Arizona State commit, 6-foot-5 sophomore do-it-all guard Kyree Walker. Recently, the program received another big-time talent when 6-foot-11 sophomore post Davion Bradford left the state of Missouri, and arrived at the Hillcrest Prep program. Bradford attended Christian Brothers College Prep in Saint Louis earlier this season, before moving to the state of Arizona in December. Bradford…
There are still numerous Arizona prospects in the 2018 class that remain unsigned, and I look for many of these prospects to begin to garner serious recruiting attention this spring, during the late signing period. One of the top available prospects in the class is Hillcrest Prep’s 6-foot-3 unsigned prep guard Demarius Jacobs. Jacobs one of the top unsigned guard prospects in the West, and this week he received a big scholarship offer from a Big-10 program from his hometown. A native of Chicago, Jacobs came to Hillcrest Prep as a post-graduate prospect last spring with his younger brother Markese Jacobs…
