Eastern Arizona Junior College (10-1) has been off to a terrfic start this junior college season, in non-conference play and also ACCAC Conference play. This week’s ACCAC Players of the Week honors go to Eastern Arizona JC’s 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Nathaniel Pollard Jr. for Division-I programs, while Scottsdale JC’s 6-foot-5 sophomore Xavier Fuller wins the honor again for Division-II programs. Nathaniel Pollard had another big game for himself in a 73-58 win over Chandler-Gilbert. Pollard scored 26 points and 12 rebounds in the win. St. Mary’s High School has been known for their basketball program in the state of Arizona for many years, as the school has had one of the most historic programs in the state – producing such high quality NBA veterans as Jerryd Bayless and Channing Frye. Arizona Western’s 6-foot-6 freshman forward Jalen Townsell and 6-foot-5 sophomore Xavier Fuller, of Scottsdale, have been selected as the ACCAC Players of the Week for Division-I and Division-II respectively. Townsell averaged 18 points two Arizona Western JC wins over Central Arizona and Tohono O’odham. The freshman from Reno, Nevada, also contributed 6 rebounds per contest, and converted 6-for-13 three-pointers. Fuller had a huge week with a 29.5 point per/game scoring average in two games, which included a 37-point outburst against Cochise. He also added 12.5 rebounds per game.

The first week of ACCAC action is in the books, and three teams have began conference play with 2-0 records.  Arizona Western, Mesa and Glendale Junior College have each won their openers. Arizona Western had victories over Central Arizona JC and also Tohono O’odham to start conference play in the ACCAC. AWC defeated Central Arizona, 79-74, and also Tohono, 86-59. The Arizona high school basketball season got underway on Monday afternoon across the state with numerous Thanksgiving pre-season events kicking off. The Hoopsgiving Tournament at Sunnyslope High School is always a fun event and has grown over the years.
