On Friday evening, #1 seed Millennium High School for 5A faced off against #9 seed McClintock HS on the campus of Millennium. Both teams have had strong seasons, but Millennium has been playing at a very high level late in the season, and are looking to make a run back to the state championship game.
To start the playoff game, it was a back-and-forth fast-paced game for both teams. Millennium jumped out to an 11-8 lead early with 4:30 to go in the first quarter. They were able to stretch that to 14-8 with 3 minutes to go, and eventually took a 22-12 lead after the first quarter.
McClintock didn’t seem to have an answer in the second quarter for Millennium's fire power. Millennium got hot in the second quarter, and went into the half with a 47-26 lead.
In the second half it was much of the same, as Millennium continued to overwhelm McClintock, and they eventually finished the game with a huge 96-50 victory.
For Millennium, they were led by dynamic junior duo of Daron Holmes (pictured) and Justus Jackson.
McClintock was led by senior guard Chance Garland and sophmore Jaylen Wesley.
Millennium advances to the 5A Semi-finals, where they will have another home game against #4 seed South Mountain HS this upcoming Tuesday 2/25.
The other 5A Semi-final matchup is Sunnyslope HS vs Ironwood HS. Both winners will advance to the 5A State Championship game.
