Pima Junior College gifted 6-foot-1 sophomore point guard Andres Marquez has worked very hard to get where he is today. The Nogales High School product is coming off a solid sophomore season where heled his Aztecs to an 18-13 overall record on the season, and now he is planning his next move - to a four-year college program.
Marquez was the floor general for a tealented Pima JC program this season that competed all season for the conference title. While the team would fall just short this season, Marquez gave up his own individual statistics to help his team win. Marquez averaged 6 points and 3 assists per/game this season for head coach Brian Peabody, but could have contributed much better numbers if he would have been asked to do so. As a result, Marquez is looking to further his career this spring with another college program.
As a senior, Marquez developed into one of the state's better prospects, after leading Nogales to a strong 23-7 overall record on the season. Marquez averaged 19 points and 6.4 assists per/game, while also scoring 40+ points several times during the high school season.
"I can play against anyone," said Marquez. " If given an opportunity, I will prove myself."
While Marquez does not currently have any offers on the table, he is currently hearing from Azusa Pacific, Cal Baptist and Nebraska-Kearney for his services.
I will continue to follow Marquez's recruitment closely and bring you any recruiting updates as they develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Marquez is an athletically gifted performer that plays with excellent quickness and aggression on the basketball court. He likes to have the basketball in his hands and makes plays for himself and others at a high rate. He is a strong ball-handler with a very good feel for the game and an ability to get anywhere he wants to on the floor. Marquez is a very good shooter with range and has a nice mid-range game as well, making him difficult to defend for opposing guards. He pushes the basketball up the floor as often as he can, and sees the floor very well – looking for the open teammate as often as he can, putting pressure on opposing defenses. He is also a very good defender with good lateral quickness and quick hands. Marquez is a strong athlete and it shows in his ability to play the game. A pure-point guard prospect.
