One of the state’s brightest young basketball prospects is already beginning to attract significant attention on the recruiting trail. Liberty High School's 6-foot-6 stud rising sophomore Trevin Davis recently received his first Division-I scholarship offer from UC Santa Barbara, one of the premier mid-major basketball programs in the West. The offer is another major milestone for one of the elite prospects in Arizona’s 2029 class.
Davis burst onto the Arizona high school basketball scene last season, helping lead Liberty High School to a remarkable 22-9 overall record and the AIA 6A State Championship as a mere freshman. His biggest performance came on the state’s biggest stage, where he was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the 6A State Championship Game, after leading Liberty to the championship.
Despite being one of the youngest players on the roster, Davis quickly emerged as one of Liberty’s leaders. He is already a vocal leader who sets the tone through both his communication and his play on the court. His toughness, competitiveness, maturity, and willingness to embrace big moments have made him a cornerstone of one of Arizona’s premier programs. As a freshman, Davis averaged 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, while playing a major role on a veteran Liberty team. Those numbers are expected to increase dramatically this season, as he takes on an even larger role for the Lions.
Liberty enters the upcoming season as one of the favorites to compete once again for the 6A State Championship. With nearly its entire nucleus returning, the Lions are expected to be even stronger than they were a season ago. Davis is set to continue his development under outstanding Head Coach Mark Wood, who was selected as the 2026 Arizona Preps Coach of the Year, after leading Liberty to another state championship. Wood has tremendous confidence in Davis’ long-term potential and believes the young standout is only beginning to scratch the surface of what he can become.
College coaches appear to share that opinion. Davis is a versatile wing prospect capable of playing multiple positions. He can score both inside and on the perimeter, rebounds extremely well and competes with relentless effort on every possession. He possesses an advanced skillset for his age, shoots the basketball with a smooth touch from the perimeter, and has the versatility to impact the game in numerous ways on both ends of the floor.
Away from his high school program, Davis competes with Dream Vision, one of the nation’s premier Adidas-sponsored grassroots basketball programs. The highly sponsored club program consistently competes in many of the country’s top exposure events and tournaments, giving Davis an opportunity to perform against elite national competition, while continuing to elevate his recruiting profile.
I expect Davis to have an outstanding July period on the Adidas circuit, as college coaches continue evaluating the nation’s top young prospects. With his combination of size, skill, toughness, versatility, and leadership, his list of Division-I scholarship offers should continue to expand rapidly over the next several years.
Trevin Davis is unquestionably one of Arizona’s premier young prospects, and he is a player I will continue to watch very closely throughout the remainder of his high school career, and will bring you more recruiting updates on him asthey continue to develop.
