One of the biggest recruiting storylines nationally in the 2027 class continues to surround AZ Compass Prep's 6-foot-8 senior DeMarcus Henry. Henry has established himself as one of the elite prospects in high school basketball and is currently rated as the No. 2 overall prospect in America’s 2027 class by ESPN and 247Sports. Coming off an excellent spring and summer, Henry was also one of the most heavily watched prospects in the country, as college coaches from many of the nation’s premier programs followed him closely throughout the evaluation periods.
Henry recently announced that he had narrowed his college recruitment to eight finalists, with North Carolina, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, BYU and UConn among the programs remaining in contention. But now there is a major development that could change everything. Henry recently received a scholarship offer from Duke University, despite already having narrowed his recruitment. Duke has widely been regarded as Henry’s favorite school, making the Blue Devils’ offer extremely significant as he moves closer to making his eventual college decision.
As a result, Henry will now have a major decision to make regarding whether Duke becomes part of his final group of schools. The late offer certainly adds another major storyline to what was already one of the most closely watched recruitments in the country.
From what I have seen and heard surrounding Henry’s recruitment, I believe Duke and Arkansas are now two programs to watch very closely. There is still plenty that can happen before Henry makes his final decision, but Duke’s entrance into the picture could dramatically alter the direction of his recruitment.
Henry’s eventual college decision has become one of the biggest storylines in America’s 2027 class. His tremendous play throughout the spring and summer helped vault him to the No. 2 overall ranking nationally, and his recruitment has followed accordingly. Henry competed this summer for the heavily Nike-sponsored Vegas Elite (NV) program on the prestigious Nike EYBL circuit, where he was one of the featured attractions at virtually every event. His combination of size, athleticism, versatility and tremendous motor has made him one of the most intriguing prospects in the country.
At 6-foot-8, Henry possesses the ability to impact the game in numerous ways and has continued to expand his overall skill level. His physical tools, activity level and versatility have separated him from many of the other elite prospects nationally in his class, while his continued development has positioned him among the most highly sought-after recruits in America.
Henry is still expected to potentially announce his college commitment sometime this fall, although it remains unclear whether he will ultimately make a decision that soon. His recruitment could also extend into the spring, especially with Duke now entering the picture.
Before making that decision, Henry will return this fall to an absolutely loaded AZ Compass Prep roster that has the talent to compete for a national championship on the Nike EYBL Scholastic circuit. Henry’s size, versatility, athleticism and overall motor are expected to make him a centerpiece of one of the nation’s premier prep school programs this season. With tremendous talent surrounding him, AZ Compass Prep should once again be among the most heavily watched programs in America and have an opportunity to compete at the highest level nationally.
For Henry, his senior season will provide another opportunity to further establish himself as one of the premier prospects in high school basketball while also preparing himself for the next level. His recruitment will certainly be one that I will continue to follow very closely. The addition of Duke could change everything, and it will be very interesting to see just how much of an impact the Blue Devils’ offer has on his eventual decision.

Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Henry is the most intriguing prospect nationally in America's 2027 Class, as he has very good size at 6-8 and growing, and is a very lengthy and rangy prospect that makes the game look easy for himself. He has extreme upside as a player and his length makes him very good defensively, as a strong rebounder and finisher on the offensive end and a strong defensive rebounder. He plays with good overall energy and is very skilled offensively. A left hander, Henry is a good shooter from three-point distance and has improved his shot over the past year, while also being able to make plays off the dribble and finish in traffic. He is a strong driver and finisher, and is a very good scorer in the transition and in the open court. An active rebounder and shot-blocker as a result of his length and timing. A good defender with good lateral quickness. His game will only continue to improve with improve physical strength over time. A future NBA prospect in the class, and one the most intriguing prospects in America's 2027 Class. Has a big time future ahead of him.
