Delton Prescott Ready for Big Senior Season

Sunnyslope High School's 6-foot, 165-pound rising senior point guard Delton Prescott has long been regarded as the top point guard prospect in Arizona’s 2027 class. Prescott has been one of the state’s elite guards since entering the high school ranks, and will now look to close out an excellent career with a big senior season. Prescott is coming off a tremendous junior campaign in which he helped lead the Sunnyslope Vikings to the AIA Open Division State Championship.

Prescott averaged 16.2 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game as a junior, and was one of the most impactful performers during Sunnyslope’s championship run. When the Vikings needed him most, Prescott consistently delivered. He scored 16 points in Sunnyslope’s 60-51 victory over St. Mary’s in the Open Division State Championship game - making several clutch plays down the stretch and helping the Vikings finish a brilliant 28-2 season.

Prescott has been a major contributor for Sunnyslope since his freshman season and, when his career is complete, will have basically been a four-year starter for one of Arizona’s premier high school basketball programs.

Unfortunately for Prescott, his momentum was slowed this spring when he suffered an injury that forced him to miss the entire spring and summer NCAA Evaluation periods. The timing could not have been worse from a recruiting standpoint. The spring and summer before a prospect’s senior year are extremely important in today’s college basketball recruiting landscape, and Prescott was unable to compete in front of college coaches during that period. While many prospects around the country were adding offers and increasing their recruitment, Prescott was forced to concentrate on rehabilitation and getting healthy. He has worked extremely hard throughout the process and is expected to be back at 100 percent for the beginning of his senior season. And when he returns, college coaches should take notice.

Prescott received numerous Division-I scholarship offers very early in his high school career. His offer list has included Arizona State, Bryant University, Iowa, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, McNeese State and Fresno State. It remains unclear which of those programs are still actively recruiting Prescott today, but that should not take away from the type of prospect he is. Prescott is worthy of significant Division-I recruitment, and I expect numerous college programs to become involved with him once again during his senior season.

Few point guards in Arizona impact a basketball game the way Prescott does. He is a very unique guard and plays the position differently than just about anyone else in the state. His explosiveness is combined with tremendous physical strength and an exceptional pace of play. Prescott pushes the basketball up the floor faster than most defenders can react. His ability to change speeds, attack gaps and put constant pressure on a defense creates mismatches and makes him extremely difficult to contain one-on-one. He is also much more than simply a scorer. Prescott is Sunnyslope’s floor general and essentially another coach on the floor. He operates the Vikings’ offense with poise and efficiency and has an excellent understanding of when to attack for himself and when to create opportunities for his teammates.

He could score considerably more if that were what his team needed from him, but Prescott understands winning basketball. He consistently looks to get his teammates involved and has developed into an excellent distributor. His court vision and passing ability allow him to create scoring opportunities for others, while his quick hands, shifty footwork and competitive approach make him an excellent defender as well. The result is a true two-way point guard who impacts winning in numerous ways.

Prescott’s leadership will become even more important this season as Sunnyslope looks to defend its Open Division State Championship, and once again establish itself among the nation’s elite high school programs. The Vikings reached the Top 5 nationally last season and proved they could compete with elite programs from across the country. Prescott was right in the middle of that success. Now he returns for one final run.

His senior season should provide him with an excellent opportunity to remind college coaches exactly why he was so heavily recruited early in his high school career. After missing the spring and summer, every meaningful game this winter becomes another opportunity for Prescott to demonstrate his health, ability and value as a Division-I point guard prospect. I expect him to take full advantage.

Prescott has already enjoyed a tremendous high school career, but there is still another chapter to be written. He will enter his final season healthy, experienced and motivated while directing one of the most talented teams in the country. I expect many more college programs to become involved in Prescott’s recruitment throughout his senior season, and I am excited to watch him conclude what has already been an excellent career for the Sunnyslope Vikings.

I will continue to follow Prescott closely throughout his senior season and bring you any recruiting updates as they continue to develop.
