Now that the 2017-2018 junior college basketball season is now underway, it is time to turn our attention to the junior college ranks and look out for the top prospects to watch in the conference this season. The conference is loaded with talent this season at the freshman level.

Here are the top overall freshman prospects in the ACCAC to look for this junior college season (In no particular order).  Most of these individuals likely will need two years in the junior college ranks before moving on to a four year school, due to academics . . .

Trever Irish  7-0  FR  Central Arizona Junior College

Irish (pictured) is an attractive looking recruiting target, as he possesses excellent size and potential for the future.  Standing 7-foot tall and still growing, Iriah is a large post prospect with a solid skill level, and an ability to run the floor and finish strong at the basket.  Irish has a lot of upside and is still growing  into his large frame, so his best years are definitely ahead of him.  An active rebounder and a capable shotblocker.  Irish will look to make an immediate impact this junior college season, and should garners loads of recruiting interest as a result over time.

Jamaure Gregg  6-7  FR  PF  Cochise College

Gregg is a very well-built physical specimen with excellent physical strength and nice athleticism.  He has very good explosiveness.  Runs the floor very well and is a very good finisher.  An active rebounder.  A very good shotblocker.  Good low post defender with good lateral quickness.  A good low post scorer with a good jump hook.  An excellent prospect for the future.

Andre Allen  6-9  FR  PF/C  Arizona Western JC

A long, athletic post player with nice length.  Runs the floor very well and is a good finisher.  A good low post scorer.  An active rebounder and shotblocker.  A talented prospect with loads of upside.  A nice talent.

Mikel Beyers  6-10  FR  PF  Mesa JC

Beyers is a serious talent with excellent length of body and a nice overall skillset.  He has excellent potential as a player, as he is long and rangy, and has a very good ability to shoot the basketball with unlimited range on his shot.  While his length and size suggests that he is a post player, Beyers enjoys playing on the perimeter and in the open floor, where he is able to make plays with the basketball in his hands and also finish plays well above the rim.  He is a good ball handler and passer for his size, that likes to advance the basketball up the floor, and also runs the floor like a guard.  Beyers is also a good and active rebounder that rebounds outside of his area on the floor.  He is an OK defender with good lateral quickness, and is an exceptional shotblocker that also has the ability to change shots.  He still needs to mature physically and get a body, but once he does, watch out.  Beyers is a big-time talent with a very bright future.

Justus Rainwater  6-8  FR  PF  Cochise College

Very athletic post player with nice explosiveness.  Strong finisher around the basket.  A good post player with a variety of low post moves and good footwork.  An active rebounder.  Runs the floor well.  A good shotblocker.  A nice looking post prospect.

Dyllan Robinson  6-7  FR  Eastern Arizona JC

Robinson has a strong body and athletic frame.  Uses his frame to finish strong around the rim.  A very good finisher.  Runs the floor very well.  An active rebounder; very good offensive rebounder.  A good shotblocker.  A good post player and a good mid-range shooter.  Good looking prospect.

Darion Spottsville  6-3  FR  PG/SG  South Mountain JC

Spottsville should become one of the better recruited frosh prospects in the conference this season, since he is an academic qualifier.  A strong and well-built prospect that has a good body and a nice motor.  He is a very good scorer in transition, and also is a nice slasher and finisher in the open court.  In the half-court set, he can get into the lane and finish or make perimeter shots to set up his drives.  Has solid range on his shot, but is at his best attacking the basket with the ball on drives.  Plays well above the rim when he decides to attack the basket.  A good ball handler and penetrator.  A solid passer. A very good defender with good overall toughness.  A talented guard prospect with nice potential for the future.

Robby Wilson  6-6  FR  PF  Pima JC

A strong, well built physical specimen that uses his body well.  Plays physical.  A strong and active rebounder.  A very good finisher.  Runs the floor well.  Plays with good intensity.  Played football @ Adams State.

Pat O'Herron  6-9  FR  Chandler-Gilbert JC

O'Herron is a nice sleeper post prospect with a nice overall skillset for himself, which allows him to score inside and out.  O'Herron can score on one end and can defend on the other - making him a two-way player for sure.  He has a unique ability to make shots from the perimeter with a soft touch for himself, which makes him tough to defend.  He also has good low post moves and solid low-post footwork to go with it.  He has good overall length of body and a nice wingspan as well.  Runs the floor hard and is a good finisher in transition.  An active rebounder.  Also an excellent student with a 3.75 CUM GPA - an academic qualifier.  A nice sleeper prospect.

Will Johnson  6-9  FR  PF/C  Chandler-Gilbert JC

A bigger post player with good athleticism and a solid overall skillset.  Has an athletic frame and runs the floor very well.  An active rebounder and a capable shotblocker.  Good low post scorer with good footwork and an ability to score inside the paint and finish strong.  A solid shooter with a soft touch.  An academic qualifier, so he can leave after one year - making him a 2018 prospect.  A good low post prospect that could have 3 years of eligibility.

Kaylon Tippins  6-7  FR  PF  Tohono O'Odham JC

A talented post player with a good overall skill level and good toughness.  A good low post player with a variety of moves, and an ability to step outside and shoot the basketball with range.  A good finisher.  An active rebounder.  Runs the floor well.  An academic qualifier.

Jimmy Brown  6-8  FR  PF  Chandler-Gilbert JC

A big post prospect with good size and a strong physical frame.  Runs the floor well.  An active rebounder and a capable shotblocker.  A good low-post scorer, and a solid mid-range shooter.  Good looking sleeper prospect.

Carlos Barela  6-1  FR  PG  Scottsdale JC

A heady point guard prospect.  A very good shooter of the basketball with range on his shot.  A very skilled guard prospect with a nice handle of the basketball and a good floor general.  A solid defender.  Pushes the ball up the floor.
