Talented Senior and Four-Star National Prospect Selects Bulldogs, Giving Head Coach Chris Jans Another Major Addition to His 2027 Recruiting Class
Another one of Arizona’s premier basketball prospects is headed to the Southeastern Conference. In another significant recruiting development for Arizona’s nationally recognized prep basketball community, CIA–Bella Vista Prep’s talented 6-foot-6 senior forward Jalen White announced his commitment to Mississippi State University on Thursday, October 29, providing Bulldogs Head Coach Chris Jans and his coaching staff with an important addition to their 2027 recruiting class. White, a highly regarded four-star national prospect, has developed an impressive reputation for his NBA-level athleticism, offensive versatility, perimeter shooting ability and defensive potential. The talented wing is currently ranked No. 77 nationally by ESPN in the Class of 2027, while the Rivals Industry Rankings place him among the top 100 prospects nationally.
White also is regarded as one of the premier small forwards in the country, further establishing his status as a significant recruiting acquisition for Mississippi State. His commitment comes after an official visit to the university’s campus in Starkville, Mississippi, where he had an opportunity to spend time with the Bulldogs’ coaching staff and experience the basketball program firsthand.
For Mississippi State, White’s decision represents another important recruiting victory as the Bulldogs continue building their future roster in the highly competitive SEC Conference. For CIA–Bella Vista Prep, the announcement represents another major Division-I commitment and further demonstrates the program’s ability to develop and showcase nationally recruited basketball prospects. And for White, the commitment represents the culmination of a recruiting process that attracted attention from numerous major college basketball programs throughout the country.
White’s recruitment featured interest from an impressive collection of college basketball programs. Among the schools pursuing the talented wing were Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma State, West Virginia and several other Division-I institutions. Each program offered White an opportunity to continue his development at the collegiate level, but Mississippi State ultimately emerged as the destination that best matched his priorities. The Bulldogs established a strong recruiting relationship with White during the summer, maintaining consistent communication and demonstrating their interest in his potential. That relationship became particularly important as his recruitment progressed.
White’s official visit to Starkville during the final weekend of October provided another opportunity to evaluate the program and his potential future within it. The visit ultimately helped solidify his decision.
In discussing his commitment with Rivals.com, White emphasized the relationships he established with Mississippi State’s coaching staff and the overall opportunity presented by the Bulldogs. He also explained that one member of the Mississippi State recruiting staff had previously been connected with his high school coaching staff, providing an additional level of familiarity throughout the recruiting process. That connection, combined with the opportunity to compete in the SEC, proved important.
White also told Mississippi State recruiting reporters that the chance to earn playing time early in his college career was among the factors influencing his decision. The combination of coaching relationships, competitive opportunities and his belief in the program’s direction ultimately led White to Starkville.
At 6-foot-6 and approximately 195 pounds, White possesses an intriguing combination of athletic ability, offensive skills and defensive potential. He is a versatile wing prospect with the physical tools to impact games at both ends of the basketball court.
Offensively, White’s athleticism and developing perimeter shooting provide an appealing combination for college coaches. His ability to play above the rim, operate along the perimeter and contribute as a shooter gives him the versatility to fit into different offensive situations. White’s positional size also presents opportunities to create mismatches against smaller defenders. His combination of length and athletic ability allows him to be effective in transition, where he can utilize his physical tools to finish plays around the basket.
Defensively, White possesses the potential to become a valuable perimeter defender at the collegiate level. His athletic ability gives him the tools to challenge opposing wings, contest perimeter shots and compete against multiple offensive positions. These characteristics should be particularly important as he prepares for the physical demands of SEC basketball.
When Rivals asked White to describe his playing style, the talented senior emphasized two of his greatest strengths: athletic shooting and the ability to defend. His self-assessment reflects the type of player Mississippi State hopes to develop within its program.
In today’s college basketball environment, versatile wing prospects who can defend, make perimeter shots and contribute athletically are especially valuable. White possesses the foundation to develop into that type of player. As he continues to improve his physical strength, offensive consistency and overall understanding of the game, his potential impact at the collegiate level could become even greater.
White has established himself among the country’s highly regarded prospects in the Class of 2027. ESPN currently lists the talented wing as the No. 77 overall prospect nationally, while also ranking him among the nation’s leading small forwards.
White's continued development has allowed him to establish himself as a legitimate high-major prospect. His commitment to Mississippi State further validates his national recruiting profile. While national rankings provide an indication of a player’s current standing, White’s ultimate success will depend on his continued development.
The transition to SEC basketball will present significant challenges, particularly against older, stronger and more experienced collegiate players. However, his athletic tools, positional size and developing offensive skills provide a strong foundation for future success.
For Mississippi State Head Coach Chris Jans, securing White’s commitment represents another important step in building the Bulldogs’ future. Jans and his coaching staff have continued to recruit nationally in their efforts to assemble a roster capable of competing in the Southeastern Conference. The SEC presents one of college basketball’s most demanding competitive environments. Its programs routinely recruit nationally ranked prospects and feature numerous players with professional basketball aspirations. For Mississippi State to establish sustained success within the conference, attracting talented and versatile prospects will remain essential.
White offers the Bulldogs a young forward with considerable athletic ability and room for development. His combination of perimeter shooting potential and defensive versatility should provide Mississippi State’s coaching staff with several possibilities for utilizing his abilities. The Bulldogs have placed an emphasis on building competitive teams through defense, toughness and disciplined basketball. White’s athleticism and willingness to defend could make him a valuable fit within those priorities. His offensive upside provides another reason for optimism. As his shooting consistency and overall offensive skills continue to develop, White has the potential to become an increasingly complete player. Mississippi State will have an opportunity to further develop those abilities when he arrives on campus in 2027.
White’s commitment also provides Mississippi State with another important addition to its developing 2027 recruiting class. He becomes the Bulldogs’ second commitment in the class, joining nationally recruited guard Jacques Mitchell. Mitchell, a talented point guard from Oklahoma, previously announced his decision to attend Mississippi State. The addition of White gives the Bulldogs two prospects with different skillsets, as the coaching staff continues assembling its future roster. While Mitchell provides the program with another young backcourt prospect, White adds size, athleticism and versatility along the perimeter. The combination offers Mississippi State an encouraging foundation as the program continues pursuing other nationally recruited players.
For White, joining an emerging recruiting class also provides an opportunity to develop alongside other talented young prospects. The Bulldogs will look to continue strengthening their roster as the recruiting cycle progresses.
White’s commitment represents another significant recruiting accomplishment for CIA–Bella Vista Prep and its nationally recognized basketball program. The defending national champions and Arizona-based prep program has continued to establish itself as a destination for talented basketball prospects seeking opportunities to compete against high-level national competition, and the program is absolutely loaded from top to bottom with Division-I prospects. More than any other prep program in America. Led by NBA agent Mike George, the program's success has been reflected in the numerous players who have earned opportunities to continue their basketball careers at numerous Division-I institutions. The program’s highly competitive environment offers players opportunities to develop their skills while facing talented opponents throughout the country.
For White, competing within that environment has provided valuable preparation for the next stage of his basketball career. The ability to compete against nationally recruited players on a consistent basis can help prospects develop the physical and mental attributes necessary for college basketball. White’s commitment to Mississippi State serves as another example of the program’s recruiting reach. The Bulldogs compete in one of the nation’s premier college basketball conferences, making the commitment an important achievement for both White and CIA–Bella Vista Prep.
The program has celebrated numerous college commitments in recent years, including many players advancing to high-major Division-I basketball programs. White now adds his name to that growing list. His decision also reinforces the increasing national recognition surrounding Arizona’s prep basketball landscape.
