Arizona Western's 6-foot-10 sophomore post Renan Lenz is coming off a very good sophomore season for himself under head coach Charles Harell.
Lenz was selected as a First-Team All-Conference selection, as a First-Team Division-I All-Region selection this season, after helping lead his Arizona Western program to this year's 2012 ACCAC Conference Title.
Lenz has been among the highest recruited junior college post prospects in the country this season - hearing from numerous division-I college programs throughout the year. With his college recruitment beginning to wind down, Lenz has four schools now in mind for his college future.
I caught up with head coach Charles Harell this past week, and he advised me that Lenz has official visits lined up to Virginia Tech, USC, Utah and Auburn.
Lenz took his first official visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend, and plans to visit each of the other three schools before making his decision.
When asked if Lenz had a clear leader at this point in his recruitment, Harell advised me that, currently, Utah and Auburn are the two schools that his talented post prospect seems to like the most.
Lenz, a native of Santo Angelo, Brazil, should be reaching a decision sometime in April.
Arizona Preps will continue to follow his recruitment and bring you any updates as they continue to develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Lenz is a talented post prospect with good size and a nice skillset. He has a good ability to play inside where he is able to utilize a series of jump hooks to be effective or attack the rim strong and finish. His best asset is his ability to step outside to 15-18 feet and knock down perimeter shots, which sets up his ability to put the basketball on the floor and get to the basket. Lenz has a good wingspan and is a capable shotblocker with good timing. He is a good rebounder that gets good inside position, and has the potential to become much better in this area. A good athlete, Lenz runs the floor very well for his size. He is a solid low post defender, but does get in foul trouble at times. Needs to continue to focus on his ability to defend the low post to reach his full potential. Overall a very nice looking prospect.
