The last time Pima Junior College and Glendale Junior College faced off with one another was for the Division-II Championship at the end of the 2019 season, and Glendale would win the title. But this year's Pima team, while dropping two games in conference play this season, is really talented from top to bottom. While Glendale Junior College had been undefeated on the season, heading into Wednesday evening's match-up, Pima would defeat Glendale from start to finish on the evening behind a game-high 27 points from 6-foot-7 sophomore forward Daniel Moody. Pima would build a 42-33 halftime lead, and not look back in the contest, as Glendale would struggle to get any offense going on the evening.
Pima came into the game as the #11 ranked team in the country, while Glendale was ranked #17 by the NJCAA.
Here are my player evaluations of the top overall prospects that I witnessed from the Pima JC program, as this team is very talented this season . . .
Daniel Moody 6-7 SOPH SF Pima Junior College - 2022 Prospect
Moody is a nice looking wing prospect with good size and length. He has excellent versatility as a player and is able to play inside and out, although he is very thin physically. He has a good shooting stroke with 3-point range, although he is at his best from mid-range, off the dribble attacking the basket or scoring around the paint with floaters and agile moves. He piles up the stat sheet as a result of his versatility as a player and ability to rebound outside of his area, as he is an active rebounder. A good shotblocker. Runs the floor hard. A solid ball handler and passer. Plays with a purpose. A very good overall prospect with upside and a high ceiling. A very intriguing prospect.
Jalen Johnson 6-8 FR SF Pima Junior College - 2022 Prospect
Johnson is a very nice looking prospect that will have (3) years of eligibility to play Division-I basketball, after this season, as he was a full academic qualifier out of Bella Vista Prep previously. A very skilled, long and rangy athlete with good athleticism. An excellent shooter with nice range on his shot and a quick release. Has excellent upside as a player and is just beginning to realize his potential as a player. While only a freshman at Pima, Johnson is three-years removed from high school and is very battle tested. Johnson is fundamentally sound. A good ball handler and passer. Has excellent length of body and size for the wing position. A very good looking prospect with good promise for the future.
Quincey Trammell 6-10 SOPH Pima Junior College - 2022 Prospect
A long and athletic post talent with good size and length. Runs the floor well and is a good finisher around the basket. Has a good jump hook. A good finisher around the basket. Has good athleticism for his size. Has OK post moves. Still a little raw offensively. An active rebounder and shotblocker. Has some upside. A good looking post prospect that can play in a fast, uptempo style of offense.
