Cochise Junior College won the regular season ACCAC Conference title after a 16-4 record in the conference this season.

A major reason for the program's success this season was the play of 6-foot-3, 190-pound sophomore guard Nathan Sobey.  With his play this season, Sobey was selected as a First Team All Conference and also a First Team Division-I All Region selection after the season.

I caught up with 2012 ACCAC Coach of the Year, Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo this weekend, and he informed me that Sobey will sign with the University of Wyoming and head coach Larry Shyatt.

Sobey was among the league leaders this season in scoring, rebounds and steals in the ACCAC - averaging 16.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals per/game this season.

A native of St. Patricks HS in Warnan Bol Victoria, Australia, Sobey is among the best pure shooters of the basketball in the junior college ranks.  Sobey is a tough, athletic combo-guard prospect that competes at a high level and is a born leader.  He should provide immediate support for the Cowboys in the backcourt next season.

Recruiting Notes:  Cochise JC 6-foot, 155-pound sophomore guard Michael Maya will have to go to a division-II school or NAIA school next season.  Jerry Carrillo advised me that Maya, also selected as a First Team All Conference and a First Team Division-I All Region selection after the season.  Maya was third in the confgerence in scoring this season - averaging 18.6 points per/game.  He also led the conference in three-point field-goal percentage, shooting 45% from the floor.
