One of the top newcomers in the ACCAC this junior college season will be Cochise Junior College 6-foot-9, 220-pound freshman post prospect Lawrence Foreman. A division-I transfer from Rider University, whom he red-shirted for last season, Foreman will enter his freshman season under legendary junior college coach Jerry Carrillo this up-and-coming junior college season. Foreman will instantly become one of the more sought after recruiting targets in the conference this season, as he will be eligible to leave the juco ranks after one year - still possessing three years of eligibility after a stint at Cochise JC.
Foreman is a native of New York, and this is his first time in the West. Formeman quickly gravitated to his new destination in the West, as he spent the summer working out with his cousin, Cal-State Fullerton senior forward E.J. Anosike. The two prospects worked hard together over the summer in the weight room, and also on the basketball court. As a result, Foreman got himself in shape and prepared himself for a big freshman season. In the process, Foreman also attended a couple junior college showcase events and was very impressive in each showing. Foreman impressed numerous college coaches, scouts and media with his size, aggressiveness and ability to run the floor and finish.
Foreman has very good work ethic as a college prospect, and is no stranger to hard work, as he is very aware of his opportunities that lie in front of him. A basketball scholarship for a product of New York and New Jersey is a blessing, and a way for a better life. Foreman understands his goals and objectives, and is going straight ahead in his pursuit to be a very serious player. He has only played the game for several years, after focusing on school and other sports as a youngster, so he has serious upside still as he continues to develop.
Foreman is a bruising post prospect and a true power forward that enjoys physical contact, and likes to play with his back to the basket. He is aggressive inside the paint and goes hard at the rim - capable of scoring with either hand around the basket. He is a very good finisher and will only continue to improve as he gains better explosiveness off the floor, which will come with getting into tip-top shape while playing for the fast-paced Cochise program. Foreman has a very good jump hook with either hand, and is able to make shots from the perimeter out to 15 feet. He does not stray to the three-point line, but rather finds his home inside and around the paint. A very strong rebounder that takes up good space inside the paint and throws his body around. Will rebound outside of his area. A solid shot-blocker as a result of his length and sheer physical size. He runs the floor very hard and is a strong finisher in the open floor. He runs hard from baseline to baseline.
Currently, Foreman is receiving loads of Division-I interest, but has not received his first offer, yet. I look for many schools to begin offering Foreman as soon as the ACCAC JUCO Jamboree takes place next month and college coaches get a chance to see him up close. Junior college prospects historically take more time to see their recruitment develop, so I look for Foreman to become one of the top overall recruiting targets in the ACCAC this season. Especially since he should be a major contributor this season for a winning and always successful Cochise JC program.
I will continue to follow the recruitment and development of Foreman this junior college season, and bring you any updates as they continue to develop.
