The top overall prospect in Northern Arizona and one of the top overall prospects in Arizona's 2022 Class, has been consistently been Prescott High School's 6-foot-4, 185-pound senior guard Jason Parent. Parent had a terrific high school career for himself, putting up superb numbers throughout his tenure at Prescott High, and drew a lot of recruiting interest as a result. The recruiting process has been a long one for Parent and his family, but after considering all of his options for college, Parent has decided that he will enroll at Northern Arizona University and play for Head Coach Shane Burcar and his staff as a preferred walk-on.
Parent made it clear to our Arizona Preps' staff all along that he desired to play Division-I basketball, and also was very interested in playing for NAU, and staying close to home. Parent received numerous Division-II offers during the recruiting process, and the later it got in his recruitment, the more smaller schools were looking to get involved, but he had already made up his mind.
Parent is a superb talent in Northern Arizona, and he is coming off a terrific senior season where he led his Prescott program to a very competitive season and averaged staggering numbers in the process - pouring in 26.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.3 steals per/contest. Parent's numbers were some of the best numbers in the country.
As a player, Parent is an intriguing prospect that is unlike many other prospects in the state. He has serious physical strength and athleticism that allow him to play well above the rim, and make plays on the floor that many players cannot. Parent is a human highlight reel and one of the state's best dunkers for his size. He also possesses an excellent shooting stroke with serious range that he shoots consistently and at a high clip. He can shoot on the run or from the standstill position, and is able to create his own shot off the dribble. He has the unique ability to be an athletic shooting specialist for NAU, which should suit him well in college. Parent is at his best at the off-guard position, but is capable of handling the basketball from the point position in certain situations. He is a strong and active rebounder also that plays bigger than his size suggests, and is capable of guard several positions on the court.
Parent was one of my favorite overall prospects last summer (2021), while he traveled with the Arizona Supreme club team, as he played exceptionally hard in each game I saw him and represented very well for himself and the state. His best performance came against a loaded Dream Vision (NV) club program in The Hoop Circuit event in Las Vegas. Parent's performance in that contest and numerous other performances, proved to me that this young man will be successful no matter where he ends up - on the basketball court and life.
Our Arizona Preps' staff is very proud of the accomplishments of Jason Parent, and enjoyed our time evaluating him and working with him throughout his high school career. We wish him the very best @ NAU and in his future. He deserves the best and he has worked super hard to get to this point in his young life.
