In surprising fashion this weekend, one of the top available 2018 prospects in the state jumped off the recruiting board, after Hillcrest Prep's 6-foot-3 unsigned prep guard Demarius Jacobs decided to give a verbal commitment to a school in the Atlantic-10 Conference.
The commitment came while Jacobs was on an official recruiting visit to Saint Louis University. He would like the visit enough to give his pledge to the program. Jacobs had recently stated that he was nearing a decision, and he absolutely was.
One of the top unsigned guard prospects in the West, Jacobs had recently received a big scholarship offer from the University of Illinois, while he also possessed offers from Arizona State University and Western Kentucky. Jacobs found his fit this week and didn't have to wait until the late spring signing period.
A native of Chicago, Jacobs came to Hillcrest Prep as a post-graduate prospect last spring with his younger brother Markese Jacobs (Kansas commit). Markese left the program this fall, and Demarius decided to stay put - flourishing in the process.
Congratulations to Jacobs and his family, and also the Hillcrest Prep program on another commitment/signing.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Jacobs is a rare find among guard prospects, as he is very talented, ultra-athletic and plays much bigger than his size suggests, as a result of his lengthy body. He is a solid addition for any college program that lands him as a result of the level of confidence that he plays with, and the ability he has to play the game at a high level. He is a versatile guard prospect that can play both guard positions on the floor, and is steady. He has a good shooting stroke with range on his shot, and also has a good mid-range game that allows him to makes plays off the dribble. He is an active rebounder and plays bigger than his size suggests. He is also a very good defender that plays passing lanes. A good overall guard prospect .
