Get ready for the promising high school career of young, rising 5-foot-10 freshman guard Mason Magee. Magee has been a superstar in the middle school ranks for some time, and now will be beginning his high school career for Basha High School next fall. Get your popcorn ready, as this young man will be sure to become one of the top prospects to ever play in the state.

Still very young as a rising freshman, and should be still entering his 8th grade year, Magee is a unique guard prospect that is well advanced for his young years. He has been a top-rated prospect since he was much younger, and has always played against much older competition, so varsity high school basketball will not phase him one bit. In fact, this young man relishes the opportunity to face better competition.

The decision by Magee to select and attend a high school was a major one for him and his family. When he decided to attend Basha HS for his high school playing career, Head Coach Mike Grothaus and his coaching staff had to be super excited, as they knew that their basketball program would be in the capable hands of Magee for the next four years. With so many top-rated student-athletes today going the prep school route, the welcome addition of one of the top young prospects ever to grace the Arizona hardwood had to mean a lot.

While his recruitment will certainly become very busy over time, Northern Arizona Head Coach Shane Burcar and his staff decided not to wait for long, and have already extended an offer to Magee - his first Division-I offer to his credit.

Magee is still growing a great deal physically, so it will be very interesting to see how much he continues to grow over time and how tall he becomes. He has a long wingspan and big hands, which suggests that he will grow a great deal. He is already a super athlete and is already dunking the basketball quite easily.

Magee is a scoring point guard, that, over time, as he matures physically and grows over time, will be able to play both guard positions. He enjoys having the basketball in his hands, so he can make a play almost at will, for himself or a teammate. He enjoys setting up his teammates for scoring opportunities, but is an excellent scorer that is an excellent creator off the dribble and makes plays at a high level. An excellent finisher already. Magee does not mind the physical contact, even for such a young performer. He gets into the lane quite easily and has a really strong mid-range game for a guard prospect. He has a nice shooting stroke with extended range on his shot. He makes shots from the stand-still position or while on the move or while being defended or challenged on his shot. He is a strong defender also that plays passing lanes quite well, with very quick hands and feet. A lock-down defender over time, which is a very nice attribute for him. Also a very good rebounder for his size that competes hard and at a high level. Magee simply loves the game and it is his passion, and it shows in his consistent top performances.

Magee also has extreme work ethic, which is his best overall attribute. His work ethic will be what maximizes his true potential as a player and as a prospect.

Magee will be thrust into Basha's starting lineup as a freshman, so it will be very fun to watch him blossom and develop over time. I look forward to watching this young man's superstar career unfold over time.
