In very exciting fashion this evening, Hillcrest Prep's stud 6-foot-10 senior post player Duke Brennan has decided to pull the trigger on his college recruitment and has given a verbal commitment to the Arizona State Sun Devils. The announcement came this evening over social media sites by Brennan - announcing that he is "staying home." This is an excellent get by ASU Head Coach Bob Hurley and his staff, who has become one of the top overall prospects in America's 2022 Class, after a very strong spring and summer performance for himself.
Arizona State, which has seen a lot of movement in their staff over the past few months, had enough to lure Brennan away from the many college programs pursuing him - a nice aspect of the Brennan commitment. The ASU staff worked hard to land Brennan, who had a long list of Division-I offers from all levels of college programs. Also joining Brennan in his commitment to the Sun Devils, is close friend and Hillcrest Prep teammate Malcolm Flaggs (pictured far right). The two prospects have a tremendous bond together that they have developed over time, and they have always wanted the opportunity to go to a college program together. After a recent unofficial visit to the program together, it looked to be possible, and this evening it became a reality, as both friends made it so - both providing commitments to the Sun Devils.
Brennan held many offers for himself from such programs as Wake Forest, Georgia, Seton Hall, Cal, Nevada, UC-Irvine, UC-Santa Barbara, GCU, Northern Illinois, Mississippi State, Hawaii, Cal-State Fullerton, UMASS, Rice, Northern Arizona, Eastern Washington and Montana, so the commitment to the Sun Devils was an excellent accomplishment by the ASU staff.
Brennan, who reclassified earlier in his high school career, benefited a great deal from the decision, as he is one of the biggest post talents in the West - possessing an excellent college-ready physical frame and superior toughness. He is a bruising post player that relishes physical contact, and will be able to step into PAC-12 competition immediately, as a result. He has an ability to finish strong around the basket and inside the paint, and gets to the free-throw line quite often, as a result of his tough, hard-nosed approach to the game. Brennan has a good jump hook and goes hard at the rim. He also runs the floor very hard and is a strong finisher in transition. He has a really nice shooting stroke with range also, and will need to continue to shoot the basketball with confidence at the college level, since he shoots the ball so well. Over time, this will open up his game. He is a very strong rebounder and has the potential to really excel in this area of his game. One of the very strongest rebounders in the country.
This spring, Brennan saw his game and college recruitment soar, and he also turned in very strong performances this summer at the prestigious Pangos All-American Camp in June, and also the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in July, where he ranked among the top overall rebounders in the event.
Brennan has proven himself as one of the elite post prospects in the country, whether he is ranked high or not. He is a plug-and-play prospect for the Division-I level, and our staff would like to congratulate him and also Malcolm Flaggs on their decisions to stay home and play for the hometown Arizona State Sun Devils.
