Since transferring high schools after his sophomore season, leaving Sunnyslope High School and landing at McClintock High School, athletic and skilled 6-foot-5 rising senior guard prospect Chance Garland has soared well below the recruiting radar. After watching Garland play several times recently, it is very apparent that this young man deserves serious recruiting attention.
The 2020 Class is absolutely loaded with talent, and Garland was once regarded among the best in the class after numerous top performances early in his high school career. But after failing to see much playing time on a very experienced Sunnyslope ballclub as a sophomore, which won consecutive state titles, and then a transfer to McClintock HS and not playing on the club circuit last summer, and Garland fell into recruiting obscurity.
Now entering his senior season at McClintock, Garland looks set to have a big summer for his high school team, which will participate in next week's big Section 7 Basketball Team Camp. He will ope to land some recruiting interest in the process, and he is very well deserving as he has grown a great deal physically over the past couple years and is a superb athletic talent.
Garland is a very fluid offensive talent with an excellent feel for the game and excellent range on his shooting stroke, although he needs to gain consistency from longer ranges, but that will come with hard work over time. He has a superior handle of the basketball and excellent body control, while possessing a bouncy vertical leap that allows him to dunk the basketball in a variety of ways and in trafffic, if the opportunity presents itself. He is also an excellent passer of the basketball as well, and enjoys finding an open teammate on the floor. A complete offensive talent that has a long, lengthy body for his size.
Last season as a junior for McClintock, Garland averaged 10.3 points, 4.7 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per/game - good overall numbers which show excellent versatility as a player. I do expect these numbers to improve a great deal though next season, so look for Garland's numbers to improve a great deal as a senior. He should rank among the state's very best scorers of the basketball in his final season.
I will continue to follow Garland as a player this summer and throughout his senior season, and will look to update you with his progress as a player and also update you with any recruitment that develops for him.
