One of the top overall performers in the state this high school season, has been Tucson's Cienega High School 6-foot-5, 200-pound senior guard Breven Burnett. While soaring under the recruiting radar in Tucson, Arizona, Burnett has put together a very strong senior season for himself, and is worthy of some serious attention from college coaches.
Burnett is definitely one of the state's top sleeper prospects still available and unsigned in Arizona's 2018 class. While there are still many unsigned prospects in the class, Burnett has proven this high school season why he deserves loads of attention this spring.
Burnett led his team to an excellent start to the high school season, as the team began the season with an 11-2 record. Since, the team has struggled somewhat - losing 4 of their last 6 games, but Burnett's play has been strong and consistent. Burnett has led his team this season to big wins over Mesquite (64-54), Arcadia (75-63) and Salpointe Catholic (66-47).
Burnett is one of the state's most versatile performers, and poured in 24 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists in a loss to Catalina Foothills HS; 21 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists in the win over Mesquite and 31 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists in the win over Arcadia HS.
Burnett emerged to our staff this summer after a strong performance in the Southwest All-American Camp, where he was among the top overall performers in the event - an event that was absolutely loaded with some of the best overall talent in the Southwest.
Burnett is a nice find for a college program this spring looking for a bigger guard prospect that is capable of playing several positions on the floor. He is a bigger guard prospect that sees the floor very well and likes to get his teammates involved in the play. A very good sleeper prospect that has some upside and enjoys playing the game and working on his craft as well.
Burnett is also the younger brother of former Cienega HS graduate and former Indiana State player Brandon Burnett.
I will continue to follow Burnett's play closely for the remainder of the high school season, and bring you any recruiting updates as they continue to develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Burnett is a skilled combo-guard prospect that likes to handle the ball and make plays for himself and others off the dribble. A skilled combo-guard prospect with very good size. He can score inside and out, and has very good range on his shot, which allows him to set up defenders nicely for drives to the basket. He creates off the dribble and makes plays for himself and others. He has a good overall feel for the game. A very good rebounder. A good defender with lateral quickness for his size. He has good potential for the future and has some upside. An intriguing player and prospect.
