Xavier Prep had a fantastic season in the AIA’s 6A conference this past season. One of the intriguing prospects who stood out during the season is 2024 prospect, 5-foot-10 sophomore point guard Dominque Nesland. Nesland is a strong down-hill point guard who has added athleticism and strength to her game by spending time in the weight room and training with former high major and professional athlete Royce Wooldridge. According to her trainer Woolridge, she possesses the highest IQ of any point guard he has ever worked with. She is an amazing point guard with strong handles, decision making and facilitation…

In the 2021-2022 season the Cactus Lady Cobras had a combined 1-20 record. The good thing is there is a big core of returning players for next season, and they will be under new leadership, as great basketball mind Greg Peters now takes over the program. Coach Peters comes over after spending two seasons as an assistant on the boy’s staff. As an assistant with the Cactus boy’s program, the Cobras were very impressive this past season – earning an overall ranking of 8 in the state’s 4A Division. They had a stellar season, led by senior guard Rob Jenkins…

When following Salpointe Catholic’s 4A State Championship run, their back court has definitely stood out to me, as their guards play physical, gritty and are not afraid to defend or dive for loose balls. The unfortunate thing is top-rated 2022 prospects, Kylee Callhan and Tessa Hastings graduate this spring. The fortunate thing is 5-foot-7 Combo-Guard Bria Medina returns for her senior campaign. This past season, Medina averaged 9 points, 2.6 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 3.2 steals per/game. I anticipate her stat line to increase going into her senior year, as she will be moved more into the point guard role.…

Yuma Catholic is located in the Western Arizona corridor, approximately (3) hours West of Phoenix. My colleague and Arizona Preps Western Scout Leo Scott has done a phenomenal job in providing coverage for Western Arizona. One of the players he advised me to watch out for is 2023 prospect, 5-foot-7 point guard Reese Sellers. Sellers had a stellar junior year in leading her team to the 2nd round of the 3A playoffs.  Her season stats were 16.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 6.2 steals per/game. I was able to observe her impressive performance in her team’s first round match-up…

On March 20, 2021 the Salpointe Catholic Lady Lancers lost a heart-breaker to the Seton Catholic Lady Sentinels, 62-70, in the 2021 AIA 4A State Championship Game. I remember walking up to get a photo of 2022 Guard Kylee Callahan and 2023 Guard Bria Medina, as their individual performances stood out. Both guards played their hearts out by applying pressure on the defensive end, diving for loose basketballs and just playing with passion. The look in their eyes really brought back memories of my playing days.  I didn’t see sadness, moreover frustration of how close they were to winning a…
