While we always talk about the top talents in Arizona basketball, one of the things that I enjoy most is discovering prospects in the state that have the potential to become serious players for the college level. With our summer rankings set to be released next week for the 2014 class before the start to the summer competition, one player that should benefit in the rankings for shooting guard prospects is Glendale High School’s 6-foot-3, 170-pound rising junior guard Lyrik Shreiner. Since the end to the 2011-2012 high school basketball season, there have been numerous college prospects present themselves within the state of Arizona. With so many high school teams within the state and so many players, the spring and summer often is a great time to uncover new prospects. Perry High School’s talented 5-foot-10 rising junior pure-point guard prospect Jordan Howard is a big-time talent that burst onto the high school basketball scene this past season. Very few players had as good a performance this spring as Pinnacle High School’s 6-foot-4, 185-pound rising junior guard Dorian Pickens. In fact, very few players in his class on the West Coast had as good a spring perofrmance. Desert Vista High School’s 6-foot-1, 165-pound rising senior guard Kyle Pitman is among the state’s top guard prospects in Arizona’s 2013 class. While many basketball enthusiasts in the state just learned the name last season, Pitman is a nice looking guard prospect for a smaller college program. Mesa Mountain View High School’s talented and hard-working 6-foot-2 rising senior post Jordan Jensen has found a college home for herself, after having a strong junior season and a very good spring performance. Recently, Jensen gave a big verbal commitment to Iowa State University and head coach Bill Fennelly and his staff.
