On Saturday evening at this year’s 16th Annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase, history in the 16-year annual event was made as Sedona Red Rock High School’s 6-foot-2 sophomore guard Dawson Stevenson brought home this year’s slam dunk title in fine fashion – defeating ultra-athletic 6-foot-8 junior forward Seth Mason of Pinnacle High School in the finals. Stevenson was an unknown prospect before this year’s event, but now has emerged as a very intriguing prospect for the future, as a result of his length, athleticism and ability to shoot the basketball from the perimeter. He is a high-energy guard prospect with…

One of the elite prospects in Arizona’s talented 2017 class is Gilbert Christian High School’s gifted 6-foot-8, 195-pound sophomore forward Nate Graville. The class is very talented and also very top-heavy, and Graville is at the top of the class – alongside some fellow top-rated guard prospects. I recently saw Graville perform in Chad Groth’s Super 80 Showcase at Arizona Christian University, and I was very impressed with this young man’s size and skill level. Graville is a rare find, as a result of his size, length and ability to make shots from all over the floor. He has a…
One of the elite prospects in the state of Arizona is Sunnyslope High School’s talented and high-scoring point guard prospect Sammy Thompkins. After an extremely impressive spring and summer performance for himself, Thompkins generated loads of college attention and scholarship offers. After mulling over his current recruiting options, Thompkins has decided to forgo the fall evaluation period, and move to signing during the late signing period. Thompkins is coming off an excellent club season, while leading his club program to numerous strong finishes. In the process he led his club team to an upset win over the nation’s #1 team,…
Arcadia High School’s hard-working and skilled 6-foot-4 senior wing prospect Avonte Nelms has emerged as a very good looking prospect for Arizona’s 2015 class. While the class is still developing in the minds of college coaches across the country, Nelms is now regarded as one of the better wing prospects in the group. Nelms moved to the state of Arizona via the state of Colorado last season, and immediately became one of the top overall performers for Arcadia HS and head coach Stephen Danford and his staff. Nelms was consistent all season long – averaging 11.7 points and 4.3 rebounds…
Tucson’s Empire High School’s 6-foot-8, 210-pound senior forward Deion James is coming off a strong junior season for himself, and is looking to build on last year’s success this season – his final season of his high school career. In preparation for his senior season, James is coming off a solid spring and summer where he gained valuable experience against stiff competition on the club circuit. While this fall will be a busy recruiting period for some top-rated prospects in the West, and, for several 2015 prospects in Arizona, the fall will be a time of signing a national letter…
On Friday evening, the Super 80 Showcase, organized by Chad Groth, would kick-off a busy weekend of basketball in Arizona. With several big events taking place throughout the weekend, the Super 80 Showcase did not disappointe the coaches, scouts and media in attendance as numerous talented underclassman prospects, and some unknown future top-rated prospects in the state emerged on the night. Held on the campus of Arizona Christian University again, this year’s event backed up another exciting event last year at the same time. The idea is excellent by Groth, as college coaches are already in town to take part…
The state’s top two overall underclassman prospects in the state are two of the best prospects the state has ever seen – Perry High School’s 5-foot-10 sophomore guard Markus Howard (Arizona State commit) and Corona Del Sol High School’s 6-foot-10 superb incoming freshman Marvin Bagley Jr. These two prospects have already gained major national attention early, and both prospects will only continue to absolutely blow up over time. This weekend, both prospects traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to take part in the USA Basketball Junior National Team mini-camp. The camp included each of the top overall prospects in America, and…
