Top-rated Cochise College has hit their stride at the right time of the season, recently taking over the top spot in the ACCAC. Cochise (22-5, 14-5) was coming off a nice come-from-behind road win over Scottsdale JC on Wednesday, but on Saturday afternoon Cochise would face the conference’s hottest team at South Mountain CC. South Mountain (16-11, 12-7) entered Saturday’s match-up as winners of their last 4 games in a row, and playing their best basketball of the season. These two programs would make for an exciting contest, in what would become the best junior college game I have seen…

Scottsdale Junior College (14-12) was the hottest team in the ACCAC heading into Wednesday evening’s match-up with league-leader Cochise College. As winners of their last 5 games in a row on the season, Scottsdale JC head coach Mark Bunker and his staff would need to prepare their team for another big victory. They would like their chances at home and after building a big, early lead over Cochise. Cochise College (21-5, 13-5) would come into the game with their eyes set on taking a sole spot for the conference lead in the ACCAC, but after getting down early in the…
It was a nice match-up on Tuesday evening between two of the state’s most talented and athletic groups, as Mountain Ridge High School (19-6) ventured across the valley to face Desert Ridge in Mesa. Mountain Ridge is led by the play four different division-I prospects, and has as much or more individual talent than any other team in the state. Desert Ridge (15-11) is also loaded with talented prospects and is led by one of the state’s elite young talents, 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Timmy Allen. It would make for an exciting match-up. Many people from the basketball community made the…

Cortez High School (12-6) has had some very successful seasons as of late, and now as a member of the state’s Division-III Class, this year’s team looks prepared to make some noise when it counts again. A big reason for Cortez’ hopes of winning a state championship this season relies heavily on the shoulders of talented 5-foot-10 senior guard Alfredo Jiminez (pictured) and their new coaching staff. Jiminez has been a handful this high school season – averaging close to 26 points per/game on the season. He has had numerous strong performances this season, and has his team in the…
It has been a terrific season for Tri-City Christian High School, as they have gone undefeated this high school season – in hopes for a state title amongst charter schools. Tri-City Christian’s only competition this season has been Skyline Prep, and the two teams understand that, to win it all, each will have to defeat the other en route to the championship. Tri-City Christian is definitely the favorite after first defeating Skyline Prep at home earlier this season, and then doing it again on Saturday evening at South Mountain Junior College. In front of another standing-room only crowd, Tri-City Christian…
South Mountain Junior College is making a nice run at the right time of the season, after winning their last 3 games in a row. Currently South Mountain ranks fifth in the conference, and second among division-II junior colleges in the ACCAC. A big reason for the success of South Mountain has been the play of a trio of players – 6-foot sophomore guard Jackson Price, 6-foot-4 freshman forward Terrence Johnson and 6-foot-9 sophomore post Connor MacDougall (University of New Mexico signee). MacDougall, Johnson and Price each rank among the top overall performers in the ACCAC this season, as all…
