Now that the 2015-2016 high school basketball season has come to an end, it is now time for our staff to make our selections for our Players of the Year, Coaches of the Year and All-State Teams.
Our 2016 Arizona Preps Big School Player of the Year is Shadow Mountain High School's 6-foot-2 senior point guard Michael Bibby Jr. After missing much of his junior season to injuries, Bibby came back in his senior season to lead his program to another Division-II state title - the second of his high school career.
Led by the leadership of his father throughout his high school career, former NBA star guard Mike Bibby, Michael played with superior confidence throughout his high school career, and it showed a great deal this high school season as Bibby led Shadow Mountain to a 27-5 overall record this season - only losing once to Arizona competition. Bibby averaged 19.3 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 2.7 steals per/game.
Bibby especially came up big for Shadow Mountain this high school season when it counted - leading his team to a come-from-behind victory in the D-II state semi-finals over Paradise Valley High School, and then a big blowout championship victory over a talented Agua Fria High School program.
As a sophomore, Bibby was terrific while leading his program to a Division-II State Championship. He would also be selected as a member of the All-Arizona Team by the Arizona Republic newspaper.
Bibby is still undecided as to which college program he will choose this spring, but he currently holds scholarship offers from such schools as USC, Memphis, UTEP, Cal Poly and numerous others. It will be very interesting to see where Bibby lands this spring.
Congratulations to Michael Bibby and the Shadow Mountain High School basketball program on this tremendous honor from our staff here at Arizona Preps, and good luck to Michael in his basketball future ahead.
