One of the top overall prospects in Arizona’s 2019 class emerged this club season while playing for the Powerhouse Hoops program on the club circuit.  Tucson’s Amphitheater High School’s 6-foot-3 rising junior guard prospect Jackson Ruai is one of the state’s most athletically gifted talents in the 2019 class.  For his efforts this club season, Ruai earned two scholarship offers for himself. First, Ruai would receive an offer from Grand Canyon University and their hard-working staff – a very nice offer for Ruai.  Grand Canyon is focused on bringing in top-rated talent for the future of their program, so this…

This weekend, while competing in the UC-Irvin Elite Camp, Thomas would receive a scholarship offer from the dedicated UC-Irvine staff.  The UC-Irvine college program has been a nice spot for Arizona prospects over the years, and the current staff made it a point to express their affection for Thomas…

One of the top prospects to emerge this July and prove that he has excellent potential for the future in Arizona’s 2019 class is Morenci High School’s promising 6-foot-9, 185-pound rising junior post John Olmstead.  Olmstead played very well throughout the month of July – catching my attention with his ability to play the post position, and also his serious potential for the future. Olmstead is a rare find in our state, as he possesses excellent size and length early in the recruiting process.  He is also very skilled and is a good overall athlete, which caught my attention quickly…

One of the top point guards prospects in the West will now pick up his game at local Hillcrest Prep Academy, after 5-foot-10, 155-pound rising junior Pierre Crockrell recently decided to leave Prolific Prep (CA) and transfer programs for his final two seasons of high school.  The addition of Crockrell to an already very loaded Hillcrest roster will be significant for a program that lacked many guard prospects last season. Last season’s Hillcrest roster was primarily led at the point position by then senior point guard Virshon Cotton (Akron signee), with very few qualified guard prospects to replace him at…

The time has been coming for several years, once it became obvious that former Pinnacle High School prospect, 6-foot-9, 210-pound rising junior forward prospect Patrick Kelly would develop into a serious division-I prospect.  Since leaving the state of Arizona a year ago to transfer to the state of Virginia, where he would pick up his high school basketball career,  Kelly has seen his progress as a player and, ultimately, his college recruitment begin to soar. Wednesday was a big day for Kelly and his family, as he received scholarship offers from two prominent basketball programs, as Providence College then UNLV…

One of the top sleeper prospects in Arizona’s 2018 class emerged this summer after strong performances in the Southwest All-American Camp, and after his play this July on the summer club circuit.  Tucson’s Cienega High School 6-foot-5, 200-pound rising senior guard Breven Burnett is now regarded as one of the top overall prospects in the class. Burnett is the younger brother of former Cienega HS graduate and Indiana State signee and player Brandon Burnett, so the basketball bloodlines are very strong in the Burnett family.  This version of the Burnett family is different, but worthy of serious recruitment.  Breven is…

One of the top unsigned prospects in Arizona’s 2017 class is Cesar Chavez High School’s 6-foot-4, 200-pound ultra-athletic wing prospect Malik Porter.  While mulling over his college recruitment options for the fall, Porter has traveled throughout the spring and summer with Team Harden on the Adidas circuit. I caught up with Porter in Las Vegas at the Adidas Uprising Summer Championships, after one of his team’s games, and he advised me that he is still very unclear as to which direction he will head for the fall – either to a junior college program or to a post-graduate program.  Porter…

The results of Bennett’s injury are still unknown, although he looks like a possible break in his foot.
