Eastern Arizona Junior College 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Jaraan Lands was one of the top overall performers in the ACCAC this past season, and after going through his sophomore season with very little recruiting attention, Lands has landed at a solid mid-major division-I college program.
Lands has signed a national letter of intent with the University of Albany and terrific head coach Will Brown and his staff - one of the better mid-major college programs in the country.
Lands chose Albany over offers from Southern Utah, Texas State and Loyola-Chicago.
Lands was among the league leaders in the ACCAC this season in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per/game, while shooting 46% from the field.
Lands is a native of Indiana, and is a rare find - a big, wide-body combo-forward prospect with a nice overall skillset and an ability to make plays inside and outside on the perimeter. He plays very physical and enjoys physical contact. He is a good shooter with range on his shot, and he also has a good mid-range game. A good low-post player with good offensive moves and footwork. An active rebounder. He runs the floor well and is a good ball handler and passer. A very underrated prospect.
Lands is a nice talent, especially for this late in the year for a mid-major program. A good get for Will Brown and his staff.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Lands has one of the best frames for a forward in the ACCAC conference. While he may be a tad undersized for the power forward position, Lands is truly a bully on both ends of the court - especially when he is playing 100 percent. He is very active on the glass on both ends off the floor, and gets a lot of his points either off of put-backs, or drawing fouls and heading to the free-throw line, where he shoots a healthy clip. He also possesses great footwork and has soft hands in the post. He has the ability to feel where his defender is playing him, and make moves accordingly. If Lands plays with fire, there are few defenders on the court who can stop him in the post. A very good sleeper prospect.
