Westwind Prep Academy is back at it again, as the school has again brought in numerous top-rated prospects to the post-graduate and high school programs for the 2013-2014 season. With many talented college prospects in attendance at the school again, despite past troubles with the NCAA Clearinghouse, the new Westwind coaching staff is getting it done at a high level - raising the college recruitment and exposure of their prospective student-athletes.
The first prospect at the school to benefit from such raised exposure is 6-foot-3 prep combo-guard prospect Collin Weaver. Weaver came to the school in an attempt to raise his recruiting stock, and he did so before the season really got underway - landing a nice scholarship offer to the University of Oakland last week. After heavy interest from the Oakland coaching staff, Weaver landed an offer from the program last week and decided to pull the trigger - giving a verbal pledge to one of the hottest mid-major programs in the country.
Weaver, the younger brother of Westwind Prep Academy high school head coach and former college standout Nick Weaver, Collin is a steady jump shooter with a good overall feel for the game. While he is not flashy in any aspect of his game, he is a solid contributor with good overall fundamental skills - a nice tribute to hard work on and off the basketball court.
Weaver will help lead a talented post-grad team this season against much of the state's top junior college programs.
Weaver will now look to sign with the University of Oakland this fall during the early signing period.
Weaver also participated in this weekend's exciting Promotion Athletics 2014 Senior All-Star Game and played well against the state's elite competition.
Congratulations to Weaver and his family on this amazing accomplishment for myself and our Arizona Preps staff.
