Hillcrest Prep Academy 6-foot, 165-pound senior point guard prospect Virshon Cotton is one of the shiftiest guard prospects in the West.  A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Cotton moved to the state of Arizona this high school season to play for Hillcrest's national high school team - an opportunity to play for one of the top prep programs in the country, and also play with the nation's top prospect, 7-foot-1 senior post DeAndre Ayton (University of Arizona commit).

Cotton ventured to Arizona this season in an attempt to develop his exposure to more college coaches and maximize his college recruitment.  Already, Cotton possesses division-I scholarship offers from UC-Davis, Southern Utah, NJIT, Robert Morris, North Dakota and Winona State.

Last week, Cotton received another offer from Northern Arizona and head coach Jack Murphy and his staff.

Cotton advised me that he is in no rush to make a college decision, and that he is looking forward to the spring to make his college decision, and will surpass the early signing period.  Cotton did not indicate a clear leader at this point in his college recruitment, and also did not indicate at this time what level of college program that he is looking for.  He will instead make his decision when he feels the time is right.

This high school season, Cotton will get every opportunity to make a case for himself amongst college coaches, as his high school program will play in each of the biggest and best events across the country this season, while also playing on ESPN potentially (4) times during the year.

Our staff will continue to follow Cotton's recruitment closely, and bring you any updates as they continue to develop.

Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report:  Cotton is a very shifty guard prospect with a tight handle of the basketball and excellent quickness on the floor.  His handle is very tight/precise, and he can frankly do whatever he wants to with the ball.  He has blow-by speed off of the dribble and really is tough once he is in the lane (finishes through contact/ uses body as shield to score over bigger and stronger defenders).  He is a capable shooter from 3-point distance (good lift), but really looks at his best when he is getting into the lane - looking for other players flashing to the basket.  A good passer that sees the floor and enjoys finding the open teammate, Cotton also pushes the basketball up the floor at a high rate.  An excellent on the ball defender as well with quick hands and feet.  A complete guard and a solid mid-major prospect.
