One of the top overall prospects in Arizona's 2025 Class is on the rise, both in our individual player rankings in the state and also in his own ability to play the game. Sandra Day O'Connor High School is set to have a big season this year, as the program sports one of the best trios in the state. 6-foot-1, 155-pound senior guard Tayvion Wilson is a member of this trio, and looks prepared to have a big senior season for himself. After recently receiving his first Division-I offer to his credit, the time is definitely now for Wilson, who is one of the very best sleeper prospects in the class.
Sandra Day O'Connor High School is one of the elite teams in the state, and set to have another strong opportunity to win a state championship this season. Sandra Day is very talented as a team and is set to have a big high school season this year, as they are now consistently one of the top overall programs in the state. Last season, Sandra Day finished with a 21-10 overall record on the season and finished as 6A State Champion Runner-Ups. This season they will be right in the mix again for the state championship, and are a clear favorite to win a 6A Title. Depending on their performance in the Open Division State Playoffs, Sandra Day will also be a favorite to go deep into the Open Division State Playoffs as well.
The success of this year's team will rely heavily on the strong play of 6-foot-8 senior Michael Simcoe, 6-foot-6 junior Colton Watson and Tayvion Wilson. Wilson is the unsung prospect of the group, but is a very worthy recruiting target, as he is among the best guard performers in the state. Wilson proved it this spring and summer on the club circuit, and also had an excellent showing for his high school program in this year's Section 7 Event. I have been very impressed with Wilson over the past several years, and believe that he has now blossomed as a player and a college prospect - enough to warrant serious college recruitment.
Recently, Wilson received his first Division-I offer to his credit, as High Point University extended an offer to him after his performance in this year's Section 7 Event. It will be very interesting to see what other schools look to get involved with him throughout his senior season. Wilson has had an excellent high school career thus far, and progressed nicely each season in his overall production. He should definitely have a major breakout season as a senior.
As a player, Wilson is a dynamic guard, able to create shots effectively for himself and his teammates. He is a very crafty scorer with the basketball in his hands and can make shots from all three levels. He is at his best creating off the dribble and making plays, which he can do with an advanced offensive skillset. He is also a very good shooter with range on his shot. A combo-guard, Wilson will need to embrace the point guard position in college to maximize his college recruitment and potential as a player. He is a very good ball handler and passer, and has a relatively high basketball IQ and feel. He is also a good defender with quick hands and feet. A nice looking guard prospect that will make a nice introduction into our new player rankings for the class, and is a good overall sleeper prospect in the West.
I will continue to follow Wilson as a player and prospect this high school season, and look to bring you recruiting updates on him as they develop.
