One of Arizona’s best is off of the board after a great end to the summer - playing with the Earl Watson Elite U17's.  Recent Shadow Mountain High School transfer, 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior point guard Marcus Shaver Jr. has decided to give his college commitment to head coach Bob Williams and the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's basketball staff.

After starting his high school career at St. Mary’s HS in Phoenix, Shaver transferred to different prep schools in Texas and Nevada, respectively, before coming back to finish up his senior year at prestigious local basketball power, Shadow (Phoenix) Mountain High School.  At Shadow this season, Shaver will team up with elite 2019 guards Jovan Blackshear Jr. and Jaelen House.

Congratulations to Marcus Shaver Jr. and his family on his recent commitment from our Arizona Preps' staff, and we look forward to watching him numerous times this upcoming 2016-2017 Arizona high school basketball season.

Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report:  Shavers is a very skilled point guard prospect with a nice ability to score the basketball and make plays for himself and others.  Shavers is an electric guard prospect that enjoys having the basketball in his hands, where he is able to get past defenders and create in the lane and take jump shots off the dribble.  He is capable of making players around him better, and much more difficult to defend with better offensive players around him.  He is a very good shooter of the basketball with range on his shot, but may have questionable shot selection at times.  May focus on scoring too much at times.  A good passer with nice vision of the floor, and has a good overall feel for the game.  Pushes the ball up the floor.  A very good ball handler.  Good penetrator and finisher.  Good on the ball defender with good lateral quickness.  A good overall point guard prospect with excellent potential for the future.
