Arizona 6-foot-7 rising sophomore prospect Caspian Jones is a promising talent with loads of potential for the future. After entering the high school ranks last season as a mere freshman and playing major minutes for Phase 1 Prep Academy, and playing major minutes against stiff competition and performing at a high level, Jones is now on the move to play at a true high school basketball program. This week, Jones enrolled at St. Mary's High School, and will plan to attend St. Mary's for his final (3) years of high school, in what is a major addition for the Knight's basketball program that is looking to retool for the future.
Jones is the perfect prospect to help build your program around, as he is young and a true post talent with size, strength and a nice overall skillset. Well trained since youth, Jones is fundamentally sound and is proven against much older and very talented competition. Jones averaged a double-double as a mere freshman last season at a prep program that played other prep schools and junior colleges. Making the transition to AIA basketball will be a very seamless transition for Jones.
Jones is a stretch 4-man that is still growing a great deal. He should grow to 6-10 in heigth, which is scary, when you consider the body that he already has on his young frame - a college ready body. Jones is a skilled prospect that can score inside and out. He has a nice shooting stroke with range, and also has good low post footwork and a post moves that make him very effective around the basket. He runs the floor hard and is good in transition. He is also a good low post defender. He is very coachable and wants to be great, so the sky is the limit for him as he continues to develop.
It will be a very nice addition for St. Mary's to now land Jones, alongside star rising junior point guard Styles Phipps, who is one of the top recruited 2024 prospects in the country. The one-two combination of Phipps and Jones, alongside other young prospects, makes the future for the Knights' basketball program very strong.
Jones will suit up for St. Mary's for the first time this weekend in the exciting and well attended Section 7 event @ State Farm Stadium in Glendale, as many college coaches will be in attendance, and get their first glimpse of Jones and his new teammates.
